W&M and St Andrews applications

Hello all CCers with excellent college tastes,

I know I'm applying RD to William & Mary (what's not to love?) and I've recently been considering applying to the Joint Degree Programme with the University of St Andrews in International Relations (and looking at St Andrews itself, too).

The application restrictions for the Joint Programme are detailed below, excerpted from the W&M website:

[quote=<a href="http://www.wm.edu/sites/standrews/admission/index.php%5DStudents">http://www.wm.edu/sites/standrews/admission/index.php]
Students seeking admission can apply to W&M only (would not be considered for joint degree), to both W&M and the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme (one of which must be chosen prior to enrollment) or to the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme only.

Students may not apply to the joint degree program twice, i.e. through W&M's application and through an application submitted to St Andrews.

May I use the Common App to apply to both W&M and the Joint Degree Programme, and also apply directly to St Andrews for regular admission?

It looks like they just don’t want you applying to the joint degree program twice. There’s no reason that applying to the joint degree program would mean that you could’t apply normally to St. Andrews for college.

Glad to hear you’re interested in the Joint Degre Programme.

You can use the Common Application to apply to both W&M and the Joint Degree Programme (through W&M). The W&M Supplement is where you’ll apply to the Joint Degree Programme. You can also apply to St Andrews as a regular St Andrews applicant through their application process. You however cannot apply to the joint degree programme through both W&M and St Andrews. You can only apply to the joint degree programme through one of us.

It’s complicated I know. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the clarification, soccerguy and W&M admission! Definitely a big help :)

Any time gutenstein.
