W&M Biology and Chem dept. - which one?

my son wanted to major in Biololgy (premed or genetic/molecular research). Any current student or member in W&M can give an insight which dept is better for his area of interest? We looked at W&M's bio dept and it seems to be small and more concentrated in the life sciences (plant, marine science, etc. area.) Maybe he should study under the chem dept instead if he chooses W&M.

Your son will probably sign up for the typical premed first and second semester of classes if he is considering that. Halfway through the second semester, when he is figuring out what to take for fall of his sophomore year, he will probably have a better idea of which path he wants to follow.

However… I went to the Bio page here: [William & Mary - Research](Research | Biology | Arts & Sciences | William & Mary) and the “Molecular and Cell” link sends you to the “Ecology and Evolutionary” link (they go to the same page, check the URL). I would email someone in the department and ask about that. There are good research opportunities for undergrads at W&M, so that will be a plus when it comes to applying to grad school.
