Thank you so much for sharing everything. Super helpful. You have such wonderful choices, congrats. Did Penn give your college counseling office (or you) feedback and to why you were denied as a legacy? You are such a great candidate.
@karen0 No, I don’t think any college will tell you why you are denied admission. I don’t think being a legacy is a hook anymore at ivy’s anyway, people think it is but I’ve seen that many many legacy’s at top 50 ranked schools were denied or waitlisted
Can anyone predict the odds for wait listed candidates at W&L
@amarmishra, at W&M? In general, waitlist odds can swing year to year. It’s really a matter of admissions coming up a little short on its estimates, hitting the target, or accepting too many students? If a generic school, not W&M, projects that 33% of accepted students will accept the admissions offer and 31% accept, it will probably draw students off the list to make up that gap; if admissions hits the 33% number right on the nose, it probably won’t accept very many off the waitlist; and if 35% accept the offer, freshman dorms will be crowded. That varies by year.
W&M added ED2 this year, so that is a new variable in the equation, without any historical data, so I’d suppose that it might be slightly trickier for admissions this year, but impossible to say how that will play out.
Good luck at W&M or wherever the process takes you!
