W&M Fall 2013 Transfer

So...who else applied?

I did, and haven’t received much correspondence since submitting. It’s somewhat of a reach for me though.

W&M’s acceptance rate for transfers is generally pretty high, around 40%. You might have more of a chance than you think.

@hokiehopeful - Same here. I hope the decisions come out soon. Best of luck!
@2013Transfer - Best of luck to you too! :D

They probably wont be out until May 1 or just before, based on what I’ve seen from past threads.

I did hear that sometimes people whose applications don’t need extensive committee review find out about their acceptance earlier.

Their blog ([W&M Blogs » Admit It!](Admit It!, Author at The William & Mary Blogs)) says that admission decisions on transfers will be not later than May 1.

In the interest of posterity…what do everyone’s credentials look like?

@hokiehopeful, the only correspondance we send to any applicant is a status update (meaning one email when we receive your Transfer Common App and another lettering you know either your app is complete or that we’re missing something).

W&M - I’ll be attending another college for my Freshman year. If I should decide I’d like to transfer to W&M, may I apply as a Freshman Spring Transfer to W&M? Also, how are transfer applicants evaluated as compared to new Freshman? More or less emphasis on any particular element of the application? Do you mostly focus on grades, less on sports/club activity (as an example)?

@W&M Admission - Thanks! That is reassuring to hear.

I guess my username should technically be hokieandtribehopeful; just happened to register with the first thing that came to mind when I joined to ask a question about VT’s application process.

Certainly hope so. Luckily W&M is known to truly look at applicants as a whole, which could help in my case since I have been actively involved in more than just academics throughout my life.

W&M’s official blog on admissions has lots of great information. I pulled this from last year:

We generally admit between 40% and 45% of the transfer students who apply (note that the process is more selective for those applying as second-semester transfer freshmen as those spaces are highly sought after and have limited availability based upon how many beds we have available in freshman residence halls)

@ W&M Admission - will we receive an email that informs us about our application decision?

@gottabeme, we responded to your question in our new from W&M admission thread where you also posted it.

@shadowcat, yes. Your decision will come via email. We don’t have a set date for that yet.

I read in last year’s thread that strong candidates who don’t need their applications to undergo extensive committee review sometimes receive acceptances before committee even begins- is this true?

(and I don’t think I’d be exceptionally qualified, so it wouldn’t matter for me, but I’m just curious.)

@WMAdmission: I sent in all the required documents, including the mid-year report, but I still have to send in some financial aids document. Would this delay affect the decision at all or delay the review of my application?

Anyone else really anxious about decisions? I’ve done well at a reputable school (3.9+ GPA), but my high school grades were much weaker- around a weighted 4.3/5. So because I’m applying as a sophomore admit, I know that my high school grades still count a lot…

@2013Transfer, if we’re able to move through our review at a fast enough pace, some of those students reviewed early and who are incredibly impressive in every facet, may hear from us before we commence with Transfer Committee.

@hopefulhippo, admission and financial aid are separate processes. We move forward with a review of your application once it is complete. Financial aid applications were due by March 1. If additional information was requested by Financial Aid, send that as soon as you can but that will not slow down our process.

Only about two weeks left…

Yeah!!! My son just received the email today. He got into W&M!!! Transfer applicant who was wait listed last year!!! I am so happy for him! :-)
