W&M Monroe Scholars Class of 2020

Let’s get this started! Who is in?

Hello! Got the message today!

congrats… what were your stats?

2270 SAT, 3.9/4.0 GPA, 800 on both US & World History SATs
You?

Not sure if I’m going, but I’m happy with the offer!

Northern Va resident, 2230 SAT, 3.8/4 or 4.2/5 GPA, 710 Math1 and 780 US History, very involved in music and theater. I also received the William and Mary Scholar award.

Has being accepted to the Monroe Scholars influenced anyone’s decison on W&M?

D2 just received the William and Mary Scholar award and the Monroe as well. Not sure what’s going to happen at this point but we (parents) are very happy.

Got the news yesterday! 2230 SAT (1490 CRM), 4.11 UW GPA (my school doesn’t report weighted GPA), immensely involved in arts (theater, vocals, etc.) and politics (Model UN specifically). It’s definitely a higher consideration with Monroe Scholars in mind now.

Congrats all! Still hoping I get an email!

Daughter got her email about Monroe scholar designation Friday. We are excited, but since we are out of state, tuition is still an issue. Can anyone elaborate on benefits of being a Monroe scholar?

From website a Monroe Scholar which is about 10% of class basically gets:

  • Ability to live in Monroe Hall if desired
  • Competes for $1,000 two week research project after freshman year (approx 140 scholars for 50 projects)
  • Guaranteed $3,000 funding for summer project after sophomore or junior year.
  • “Priority” for freshman advisers, registration for speaker series, and seminars (did not mention class registration)
  • Generally a closer knit and more supported experience (my assessment not their words)

I received the email about a week ago!

SAT/ACT: 2120/33
SAT II: Math I 710, Biology 670, Literature 700
UW GPA/W GPA: 3.95/4.329
Activities: involved in about 10 total with leadership roles in 9

I do not know if I will attend (waiting to hear back from three other schools), but it is a top pick!
