I got accepted to both with a 1/2 tuition scholarship from Richmond (making the cost about the same). I want to major in biology/psychology. I've visited both schools and I love them both! HELP!

I'm a female living in Texas. An out of state acceptance to W&M is hard to pass up, but I think I would really fit in at Richmond. I don't know what to do.

I'd say WM. They have a great program for the sciences. Also, Richmond tends to be more "preppy and frat boy"ish, but maybe you're into that. Personally I'd say w&m, but both are wonderful opportunities so you can't make a wrong decision.

I would go to W&M in a heartbeat. Richmond is a good school but you will be among the brightest kids if you come to W&M. We have a very high acceptance rate into Medical school if that's your goal. The reputation of W&M surpasses the one of Richmond, be proud of your accomplishments, as an out-stater you must have had amazing numbers to get into to W&M.

Cow- it has to feel right for you. Jammin is right, reputation isn't everything, Richmond is a very different from W&M. I spent several days at both schools, and although I did love W&M for it's "reputation" in reality it probably wasn't for me. The isn't much to do or anywhere to go, just a couple of bars in town. It's like living in a revoluntionary war reinactment, everyday. I think I would go nuts there for four years. Hey-that's JMO-please all you W&M fans, relax about it!

Yes, Richmond is very preppy and conservative, but I am comfortable with that. I met lots of great, friendly, smart kids who were also a lot of fun. I spent the weekend and I didn't want to leave. I think you should spend a few days at each school (overnight is good, weekend is better) then see what feels right.

Well, if you want to go to school in the middle of nowhere, go to W&M and if you want to go to school in the middle of urbania, go to Richmond, there only as different as night and day.

VCU is urban. University of Richmond is not urban... if you have ever been there you would know that. UR is definitely closer to a city than W&M, but by no means anywhere near walking distance.

The campus life at W&M and UR is very different. It's important to choose the one that you think you would be happier at. W&M is ranked higher, but you will get a very good education (and one that is respected after you graduate) at UR. If it's possible, take tribegirl's (user with most misleading name =P) advice. Maybe you could come up for some time and split it between UR and W&M. They are about an hour apart by car.

Tribegirl is right that UR is more preppy. I'm not as sure about the conservative part... not saying she's wrong, just that I can't confirm it.

UR and W&M are both good schools, but they are quite different too.

I'll throw my take on it out there... if you see yourself at a frat party kinda thing more often than not on the weekend, choose UR. If you see yourself chillin and hangin out with friends around the dorm, choose W&M. Not that there aren't both groups at each school, because there are.

And if this matters at all to you, UR will let you have a car first year.

I was accepted into both of these schools. Richmond is on the bottom of my priority list out of all of the college's I was accepted into. William and Mary is definitely a better decision, but I cannot decide whether I should to to Tufts or William and Mary. Any suggestions?

I don't know a lot about Tufts. My best friend is probably going to go there though. I know they have outstanding programs in IR and politics, but W&M is known for its IR too. I would go to W&M because of the climate, but Boston would be a lot more fun than Williamsburg. Tough call! W&M is obviously much less expensive, so that may be a factor too. I spent 3 weeks at W&M this summer so if you have any questions that I might be able to answer then go ahead and ask (for example, the food sucks! but the upperclassmen dorms are huge)

W&M is cheaper than Tufts, and the IR program here is very strong, with good connections to DC. If you're into Model UN, W&M has 2 time defending World Champion MUN Team.

I'd say if you want city, go Tufts, if you want smaller town, go W&M.

The food here is not that bad... I'm a very picky eater and I get by fine. Also, the Caf (by William and Mary hall, dunno if it would've been open to you in the summer) is getting renovated right now, there's a big tent by Yates serving as a temporary careteria. After they finish it, it's supposed to be way better, wtih different lines with different food from different parts of the world, South American, Asian, a Grill line with the burgers and such, etc. Says the food will be made fresh for you, but I doubt it will actually be completely fresh. Should be one of only about 15 of these eating facilities in the country.

The costs difference between the two sounds like it won't be that large. I'd visit both schools and make a decision. Academically, both would be fine at the undergraduate level and would be able to get you where you want to go. William & Mary has a slight overall edge, and its students are better, but Richmond has a better social life. I'm not even sure which I'd pick, if given the choice.

ok, my mom lived in va and spent years in Richmond. My relatives live in Richmond now. It is the absolute coolest city and i love it. i did not apply to ur but did wm cause i want to go to med school. but i will say this to you. unless there is a specific reason for picking one over the other (like med school or you like a smaller place, etc.) then you better pick where you are comfortable. cause the reputation won't matter if you hate the place and can't wait to leave or if you end up transferring cause you made a mistake. YOUR GUT TELLS NO LIES.

People keep saying things about Richmond being really conservative. Is this true and if I come from a place that is hardcore liberal am I going to flip out or be able to find enough people w/ similar political ideasthat I won't feel overwhelmed?
