Hello all,

I'm a student at Northern Virginia Community College, and I am planning on graduating in the fall semester. The Virginia Community College System, as some may or may not know, has guaranteed admissions agreements with several colleges in the state of Virginia and with several out-of-state colleges that basically, as stated, guarantee admission, as long as you follow several guidelines and specifications outlined by the schools.

Right now, at NVCC, I'm planning on getting an A.S. in Social Science, and would like to transfer to a four-year school to study English, specifically, creative writing. I'd also like to study theatre, as I have been acting/doing tech work since middle school, as well as explore film study.

Basically, I've narrowed down my choices to two schools under the guaranteed admissions agreement: UVA and William & Mary. I've heard a lot about the schools as far as academics and life outside the classroom goes - it is essentially even as far as credentials go, at least for my interpretation.

I did, however, take a tour of William & Mary today, and came away very impressed. It seems to have that reputation of being an anti-social school; however, there are a lot of opportunities at the school to get involved socially and/or in other pursuits, and the small community/balance of tradition and modernity was very appealing.

I am planning on taking a tour of UVA in two weeks time, so of course, I won't jump to conclusions anytime soon. ;)

I would just like to hear the opinions of some of the posters here who are familiar with the schools and/or their programs/reputations as far as English study goes between the two schools. I know that UVA has one of the top creative writing MFA programs in the country, yet I've seen across the web that W&M has a better undergrad English program.

Bottom line: who's better at what I want to major/minor in, where should I go, and why?
