"By mid-March, IT will announce the recommended notebooks for students entering W&M in fall 2008 - we will offer both a PC (Dell) and a Mac option."

EXCELLENT.

it's about time.

Woah, they got rid of the Thinkpads. Does anyone know if this will affect the people who have Thinkpads regarding IT service and repairs?

Edit: I just looked at the Dell that they are offering, it looks really nice and the screen is way better than the T60 that was offered to the 2010 kids (me), its also half the price. They should have done this a long time ago.

Service for IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads is not going to be affected.

While I know many people have been clamoring for Mac support for a long time, I do not know the extent to which the Macs are going to be supported. For instance, while the Macs are going to be a recommended model, it is not yet clear whether or not they will be serviced on campus.

So when they say Macs are going to be a recommended model, I don't know if this simply means students will be able to obtain a Mac at a discounted price, or what. I guess by mid-March things will become clear.

at the very least, the people who were previously discouraged from switching to macs when they came to college will probably now feel comfortable making the switch.
