Hey guys. So I took Calc 1 at my local CC over the summer and I struggled and got a C. Now I’m taking Calc 2 during the fall semester while im in the fall of my senior year, and I don’t understand the material at all and my professor says you need to dedicate a ton of time to studying outside of class and I just simply don’t have the amount of time necessary to dedicate to studying for this class. I got an F on the first quiz we took, and I have a test tomorrow that I’m pretty sure I’ll fail. My question is: do you think I should drop this class with a “W” on my CC transcript? Or should I stick it out and hopefully pass with a C? Since I’m in high school and my community college transcript isn’t the main thing colleges are looking at, do you think a W would negatively affect my chances? BTW, If I drop Calc 2, I won’t get credit for Calculus in college and I’ll have to retake it. Please someone help me because I feel like I’m drowning and I’m not sure what to do. Should I drop with a W, or hope for a C with the very real chance of actually getting an F or a D?
By the way, I will still have to send my CC transcript to colleges because I need them to accept my music class as fine arts credit and my pre-calculus class which I got an A in. I took these both at the college so that’s why I’m so concerned over my CC transcript.
I do not think you should have moved on to Calc 2 with a shaky foundation in Calc 1. I would drop.
A W is better than a D or F.
I agree…W is better than a D or F. Always remember if you take a college class, it is a college class. They expect 2-3 hours of homework for every hour that you are in the classroom.
Whether or not any of those CC classes are going to transfer, you have to submit the transcript. It is part of your permanent academic record. Take the W, and move on. W is better than a bad grade.
