How do law school admissions view a 'W' on prospective students' transcripts?

As long as it doesn't have a WP or WF (withdraw passing, and withdraw failing) designation like Bowling Green does you should be OK

The University of Texas didn't care much for it when George Bush applied.

My guess is that one W wouldn't make much of a difference, but that a pattern would not be viewed favorably.

That is a good question, I got mono one semester and dropped two classes with a W(not that either were important-one was jazz dance and the other was self defense-just three credits total) Should I use an addendum to explain that?

Given that there were both physical education classes, I don't think I'd bother explaining.

I would mention the mono in an addendum, then a quick note (i.e. 1/8 of a sentence) that you dropped phys. ed. classes because of it.

Regarding the W thing: I don't think it matters that much, but it probably does depend on your age. If you drop as a senior and apply right afterwards, that would look worse than taking a W as a freshman, which can be explained through "I was a dumb 18 year old but I grew up."

didn't the W get him into Harvard MBA program though?

I thought it was his last name that got him in there.
