W on transcript Effects?

The only three colleges I will be applying to is UCB, UCLA, and USC for Business major. Currently, I have a 3.97 GPA and excellent extracurriculars.

I will need to withdraw from my calc. course.

How would the W look to these institutions?

for USC, a W is almost counts as a F, but others are fine.

The “W” itself won’t affect your admission to the UCs. But if that clac course is major prep, you will obviously have to take it again, or your chances of being accepted will drop significantly becuase you will be missing a pre-req.

I will be able to take that class for sure before I start applying.

I am planning to call USC myself, I don’t believe they would treat one W that harshly. Does anyone have similar experience?

A W is viewed that harshly by med schools and various grad schools, a private undergrad isn’t too far out of the realm of possibility. I’m not saying USC is like that for certain I just felt it should at least be thrown out there.

my bad for saying almost, Incompletes grades from your transfer school are treated as an F.
One thing that is certain is that USC doesn’t honor academic renewal example, took a course get F repeated got A F+A= C.
btw with a gpa of 3.97, you shouldn’t be worried with one W.

I will provide sources if i have your permission.

I had three W’s on my transcript and was accepted to Berkeley, didn’t apply to LA. I also had a 3.6-3.7 GPA. So I would say you are fine with one W, ESP if you have a good reason for it. I talked with an admissions officer at UCSD and he said they literally just cross out the W’s and don’t care about them unless its the same class a few times. I have no clue how it works with USC.

I have 2 W on my transcript now from the same quarter, they said it won’t be an issue. (UCLA, USC, UCB) after I explained the situation.

As long as you retake it, it won’t be a problem for the UCs.
