I know it’s passed the “add/drop/swap” period but I have now come to realize I do not want to stay in one of my classes. Honestly, I didn’t think two weeks was enough to get a good feel for it anyway considering you don’t do much in the first week, so I had to base my decision off of two classes. But I digress. The class is required for my currently declared major (journalism), but when the time comes, I plan on switching majors. I know that a “W” on my transcript can look bad if the class is pertinent to the major, but is it bad to have one if I plan on switching? I guess I’m also asking if it’s bad overall to have a “W” on my transcript. I’m not adjusting well to college life, unfortunately, and I think this class is not helping me out in the process. I appreciate any advice or insight on the matter. Thank you.
You sort of answer your own question… if it’s a course you won’t need, then yes, the W is okay. It’s better than an F. Just make sure that it doesn’t drop you down below full-time status, and make sure that won’t impact your financial aid at all. Before you drop it, check in with your advisor.
