'W' on transcript

Do you guys think UF will care if I have one withdrawal on my transcript? Will it look too bad?

I'm taking a virtual school class (honors government) but I just can't handle it anymore with work and volunteering. I don't wanna continue with the class and potentially bring down my GPA by getting a B because I couldn't put as much time into the class. Any advice??????

Oh no! Not a B!!! What will you do??? Seriously, though, it looks better to get a B than to quit, I would think.

Yeah but it would bring down my GPA… And I really don’t want that, lol. I just want to know how bad that W will look if I do decide to end the class :/

Talk to your guidance counselor and to UF admissions.

I would say that a B is much better than a W, but I don’t know.

I think a W would look bad. On the application under “other” you would want to address the reason you withdrew from the class.
“W” would somehow have them do a double take on your transcript in a negative way…I would think, while a “B” would just mean nothing…just a B(and since honors a 3.5 it not hurt GPA too much)

Also,If you have been enrolled for less than 14 days and withdraw then I do not think it will show up at all.

If you are sure that the worst you will do is a B then don’t drop! A W is worse than a B. A W can mean so many things to admissions and you will end up feeling the need to explain yourself to them and any scholarship programs about why you got a W. I don’t think it’s worth it. W’s should be last resort options, like you’re getting a C- or a D in the course. That being said if you really want/need to withdraw for your own sanity and this will be your first and only then 1 W is really not so bad. It’s not something that is going to make them deny you if you have generally good grades. I have 1 W from a Chem class that isn’t related to my major so I don’t think they sweat it.

Okay, thank you guys for your advice! I’m going to stick it out and see what happens. :)

Is your virtual class from FLVS? I registered for 3 online AP’s with FLVS but it was too much so I withdrew from one. It doesn’t show up on your transcript as long as you withdraw within the grace period. If it’s not FLVS then I dont know how it works

Seriously…your thinking of quitting honors government because of a B? -__-
Keep taking the class, and do the best you can. I got plenty of B’s in high school (6/7 in my 2nd semester of my junior year), and now I’m a sophomore at UF. I’m not saying that what I did was a good thing, and you should definitely always try your best, but you do have room for mistakes. Also, if you get a W, most colleges would assume you withdrew because you were failing and didn’t want it screwing up your GPA.

I completely commend you for setting high standards for yourself, but give yourself a little break.
