'W' on transcript...

How bad does it look to have a withdrawal on my high school transcript? Will it hurt my chances of getting in?

I'm currently taking US Gov online but I simply do not have time for it... (summer reading, work, volunteering, etc) I can continue the class but I'm afraid I'll get a B and bring down my GPA. I'm thinking about withdrawing from the class... but i'm not sure how bad that will look on my transcripts.

Please help! I need advice asap! Thank you

During the FSU Admissions tour a parent asked this question. Based on what I heard, I don’t think the W will affect your grade.

My suggestion would be to just continue in the class and take the B. A B here and there is, by no means, a bad thing. I think you’ll be fine.

But yeah, it probably couldn’t hurt to just ask.

I’m in agreement with Robbeh here. A B isn’t bad. Why drop the class simply because you’re not going to get an A?

Compared to a B on your transcript, a W might actually look worse. It might call into question a lot of things (of course, that’s if anyone actually cares. Does it matter? Probably not).

When you get into college, if you start dropping every class that you aren’t getting an A in, you’re probably going to struggle to even graduate.

Lets say worst case scenario I do drop the class… Will that hurt my chances of getting into the college? If I have one withdrawal on my transcript??

Realistically, I doubt there would be any impact. It might catch an admissions officer’s eye and make them go “huh” but that’s likely it, especially if your profile is good anyway.
