Hi there,

I'm a community college student (sophomore) looking to transfer to UC Davis in the fall of 2015. I am a Political Science major. In the beginning of the semester I was an International Relations major and I was looking to fulfill all of the needed classes to transfer (sort of all at once), so I signed up for macroeconomics. Halfway through the semester I changed my major, also realizing that I no longer needed macroeconomics at all, but it was too late to drop it without a W on my transcript. I'm taking five classes this semester, none of them easy, and to be honest it's very overwhelming. I'm doing well in all except the macro class. I don't expect to get better than a D, if that.

Here's my question: At this point would it look worse to accept the low grade and the blow to my GPA, or to see a W on my transcript? My school allows drops with a W until the semester ends, and I really don't need another hit to my GPA. Also, will I have to retake macro if I drop it with a W, even if it isn't required to transfer into my major? I realize it was a huge mistake to try and cram a bunch of classes at once, but I guess I was feeling cocky. Thank you in advance for your help. I'm new here. :)

Here's a list of the classes I have for this semester:
Macroeconomics (3 units)
Spanish 1A (4 units)
Math 380 (5 units)
Modern World Problems (3 units)
US Government & Politics (3 units)
