I am considering withdrawing from a class because I am trying to maintain a 4.0 GPA. This class would likely end in a B/C but there’s no way it could be higher. This is a pretty basic course I just underestimated my semester work load. Would a “W” hurt my chances of acceptance in transferring from a CC to a UC at all?
Is the course a pre-req or just a general ed course? Generally, the UCs do not place much emphasis on W’s especially if there is only one or two.
It is a course pre-req. But I can now take the next course without completing this class due to my test placement. Would having a B/C or “W” be worse? It would be my first/ hopefully only.
If it is your only W and your test placement puts you in a higher course, I would just take the W instead of risking a C.
However, I’d also urge you to consider whether a higher-level course in the fall would be harder for you. If you are already struggling in this course (although a B is not struggling), would you actually do better in a higher level course?
My the majority of my bad grade is due to absence due to personal reasons. My grade will likely miss an A by only a few percent but I’d rather not risk it. Otherwise the class was a breeze. I think a W would be better than a drop in GPA, but I know my judgment isn’t best since I’m not too familiar with this area.
Agreed, W ok.
