Which is generally more important to colleges?
I'm just entering junior year so I am only projecting my high school GPA so far... but last year's GPA was a weighted 3.714. I am aiming for straight A's this year which would land me with a weighted GPA of 4.57 for junior year.
Would this upward trend in grades (mostly due to more AP/honors classes this year) look good enough?
Also, on college student profiles where they do not specify between weighted and unweighted average GPA's... which one is it usually?

colleges prefer unweighted because thats just common sense. If they see a 4.2 GPA they know the grades been inflated and they don’t like it.

Unweighted GPA means nothing and IMO its bad for the students because it gives them a false impression that their GPA is excellent and safe when the truth is colleges will strip away all weights and focus on your academic classes.

Thank you for your response.
However, will they take into consideration the difficulty of your classes? I am taking 2 AP’s and 2 honors classes this year, as well as an accelerated math class, an extra science, and orchestra, which is considered an extremely difficult schedule at my school. Do they realize how difficult the schedule is and take this into consideration when looking at your unweighted grades?

Yes, absolutely, they look at your high school’s profile and compare what you have taken against what the school offers. They want to see you taking the difficult courses.

Well, I think it depends on the school. Pitzer had a rep tell us they preferred weighted, and if you had UW, they would just weight it themselves.

My school usually sends out unweighted. However, my counselor is known to send out the weighted gpa if the student’s weighted ranking was higher than their unweighted ranking.

You should ask which ranking your counselor will send out, and choose the one with the higher ranking. Trust me, ranking is much more influential than GPA.
