Wait...Do Majors affect admission?

For example, Engineering is a competitive field of study, Would applying as a Engineering major be a lower chance than someone who chose to major in art, or a major thats not that popular?

Also does applying as undeclared the way to go?
Advantages/Disadvantages?

Undeclared give one the best chance? I’m planning to apply to mid-top tier UC’s this year.

It depends if its impacted or not. Engineering at UCSD is impacted only if it is CE or BioEngineering: Biotechnology. Others such as EE or bio-premed are not impacted and will not affect admissions. Arts programs typically have a separate admissions format, including auditions and such, so I would assume that it would be, to say the least, different from the regular admissions.

Undeclared is supposedly a good idea for UCLA, although not the best idea for Irvine (check that board, someone mentioned it a while back). Otherwise it would help to know statistics of your application and what major you intend on transferring into. Again, as long as it isn't impacted, it doesn't matter if the whole applicant pool applied to it, they won't weigh your major against you.
