Wait for admission decision very inconvenient.

I'm sorry but the wait for their decision has been very inconvenient to me.
UW is my top choice, but no word yet.
I have a trip planned at the end of March during my spring break to visit Portland State, Oregon State, and San Francisco State University. I'm flying from NJ. It would have been nice to hear from UW so I could have included them on that trip but now if they do accept me I'll either have to decide based on facts and pictures or take another expensive trip across the country.
Also, SFSU is making me take a placement test even if I haven't decided I wanted to go there yet. If UW had given me an answer I could be saving an extra $50 because I'm out of state.
When will people like me (3.4/1130SAT) get a response?
Because right now I'm doing all of my college preparation and paperwork as if I am not getting into UW but If I do get accepted it will throw everything out of control and I would have lost a lot of money.

Well.. I haven't applied all around the country like you, so I don't know how long other places take, but I applied on Dec 1 with similar stats (3.56, 1250), instate and still am pending... They guarantee by May 1, but I've also heard that they pretty much make every effort to be done by April 15th, so I mean we should all hear in the next 6 weeks hopefully.

Sorry about the long flight, but why don't you just rent a car for a day and drive up to seattle from portland its a easy enough day trip... or you can even take the train or greyhound between the two. Seattle to portland generally only takes around 3hrs each way though.

Im 3.3/ 1260 SAT, instate, applied on January 13th, and it still says I havent even gotten a preliminary review...is this a bad sign (i.e. does it mean I probably wont be admitted?), or are they just being slow? Will I ever get an initial review, or will it just go from prelim. review awaiting to decision made? I agree that it is completely inconvenient, and Im going pretty crazy with the waiting. I have no motivation till I hear back from UW, which is pretty bad...I just want to know where Im going next year. I want to be a Husky. Why, oh why have they not reviewed me yet???

iwantuw I wouldn't read at as any sort of sign at all, because that simply means they haven't even looked at it yet. The deadline was the 15th right, so they must have had a huge influx of incoming applications at that time, takes a long time to go through them all.

platinumtlc, that does suck about not receiving a decision from UW in time for your trip. however, i agree with what frop had to say about either renting a car or taking a train/bus up to seattle from portland for like a day trip. it really does only take like 3 hours and i just heard this morning on a radio station that either greyhound or amtrak is offering non-stop trips to seattle from portland and vice versa. i'd say that this is pretty convenient. well, i hope that things work out well for you!

(are you traveling by yourself?)

D applied to 5 other public schools. The only acceptances we have heard about so far from ANY of them are to the scholarship caliber acceptees. The rest of us continue to wait. I am surprised that everyone on this school site seems to think that they should have an answer from the UW by now. It is still early--UDub is NOT a rolling admission school. In our house, any news before April 1 is an unexpected blessing.....stop torturing yourselves!! I do NOT mean to berate you---just think that for some reason there is a perception that UW is rolling admissions or something. Hang in there. Stay positive. The UW isn't taking any longer than anyone else!

D's myuw message changed on March 7 from; "initial review, decision pending" (Jan. 5) to: Application reviewed; applicant notified by mail when decision becomes available." Normally this has meant good news but this late in the game we will just have to see what comes in the mail. Once again; she is a 3.55/1240 applicant.

mm- mine did the same yesterday and I called up my counselors to make sure I got in and I did (wooohooo) =). If you notice your D has a student # now when u click on "unofficial transcript." If you don't want to wait another day or two to get ur acceptance letter u can always call them up I think (or atleast tell ur counselors to).

O.K. Did that. Not only does it give a student # but also GPA; SAT score and it says: "Admitted Freshman for fall 2005", with anticipated field of study. I guess that is pretty close to a done deal but I am not going to say anything to my daughter until the letter comes. I want her to have that experience. Congratulations to you Mr. Seven. I am also pretty certain now that those above in the same ball park will get similar results soon.

aww, congratulations to your daughter, mmboys! I'm so happy for her. And you too, Seven!
Oh, I wish I knew.....Now I must stop torturing myself and learn to be patient, and wait for my chance. About a month to go, I think I can make it...

Seven, what exactly were your stats again? I wanna see exactly what group of people is being accepted right now...

3.54 1140...a lot of pple have told me that my essay was what helped a lot.

what would that make your AI, seven? And what did you write your essay about? What about EC's? If you could get in with an 1140, maybe theres a teeny shard of hope for me with my 3.3, 1260...

58 AI I think and I wrote about the adjustment one has to make when moving from place to place. I couldn't find my essay so I'm kinda ****ed but it might be on my other comp so I'll post it if I find it. EC's weren't too strong but I did do volunteerin @ uw med center and had a couple of diff. jobs.
And btw a guy with a 990 got in if u hvnt read the other threads...but he's like fluent in like 4 languages so I'm not that surprised.

3.55
3.54

Could it be that they're accepting based on GPA instead of the whole AI factor?

That's interesting...I wrote about moving from country to country, too, and how it has altered my perspective and made me want to pursue a career in journalism. Im really hoping my essay, EC;s will help.

I doubt it, seems to me just to be a little random guys, prolly deals with who the admissions counselors are and a number of other facts. I have a 3.56 and still nothing beyond prelim.

No doubt there is a little luck involved and how the counselor likes ur essay & ECs...or as an example...if u wrote about how Bush sucks and the counselor is a republican then good luck to you...in the same way...if u did a lot of volunteering to prevent global warming and the counselor is on the global warming committee then u probably could get in with lower stats...but the problems is that you can't rely on these things so you need a strong GPA and a decent SAT to get in

Well shoot, I guess my essay on dealing with my deep depression and brief painkiller addiction caused by the re-election of Bush could be a downer? :p

At any rate, I was replying to dreamkissed's theory that they are admitting on GPA now. I think when we hear is sort of a random event, it's been said before but UW is not a rolling admissions school, so they don't line people up by GPA and admit from highest down at any point.

I've been lurking here for a while now and I just got my acceptance letter today (got reviewed message on the 7th)!

My AI was 62 and I had a 5.53, 1210 SAT at the time. I some AP courses, belonged to Environment Club and Key Club, JV Golf, and went to state in DECA. I really think my essays were good though... I wrote my first one about the dangers of censorship and then I wrote about discovering I had Native American background for the optional one. So I don't know if I got in because of all my EC stuff or just strictly because of GPA. However I think it's a good sign if you get reviewed now.
