Wait for admission decision very inconvenient.

My d's letter came today. I didn't tell her I already knew she was admitted. However, since the envelope was oversized there wasn't much mystery. She was very excited and relieved. She only applied to Western and the UW. Now she can really sit down and make up her mind. I always assumed UW was far and away her first choice but once in awhile she says something that tells me she is still thinking. In any case, as a parent, I have done all I can do. It for her, and all you other young people, to make the most of the opportunities that have come your way. Good luck.

Wow, mmboys, congrats finally!! I know even though we all "told you so" you were still "iffy," even I was like "whats going on?!" when I was still waiting back a few months ago. Anyways, so wheres that whole essay you are going to write on UW's admission process now? I remember you said something about writing a review or something on the whole deal :D BTW- you seem very calm now that your daughter in, just a couple days ago you were pretty worried :)

I am debating the wisdom of sharing, in more detail, the comments and reflections I mentioned before. Let me just say my interest in this process and board goes beyond concerns about my d. Besides, I suppose the young people here are more interested in the young people here, if you know what I mean. So we shall see. And congratulations to you as well.

My S. received his acceptance notice today. the wait is not over since he applied to other schools as well that he prefers. However, it is nice to know a UW is a there if he wants it. I too believe the pressure is intense and the process not quite what it should be.

Congratulations! What other schools did he apply to? My son is coming along in a few years. I think I will be better prepared to help him now that I have been through this with my d. There is nothing wrong with pressure as long as the parameters of the process are known. The CR just seems to be more than a little arbitrary. The thing that bothered me was this: There really was a pretty big disconnect between what admissions officers said at the visitations and how things unfolded. Changes need to be made. In fact, I have talked to some people at the State Higher Education Coordinating Board and they recognize improvements need to be made.

He has applied to several LAC's including Reed, Colorado, & Grinnell, plus one other University, the Univ. of Chicago. I have issues regarding preparation by high schools and their follow through, and having to compete with kids who have separate tutors for each AP class, each section of the SAT, and for reviewing essays. I used to think this was rare, but I have found that for many top tier school applicants this is more the norm than one would expect. I would like to see applications ask how much help a student has received in each of these areas, and for that to be considered when evaluating applicants.

Hmm, well congrats to all but poor me with my 65 AI still hasn't heard anything beyond prelim. I mean I guess its a good sign that all of you with 65 and lower AIs got in, but it makes me just a little nervous.

if ur still prelim review I would call them up and tell them about your situation...they should ve given u an initial review by now for sure

I got a prelim.. on Jan 3, just no final yet. Hopefully, its just sort of random, and I'm still somewhere in the stack.

Yeah, they hardly ever admit to using the AIndex to automatically admit people, it makes them look easier to get into. I e-mailed the admissions people before asking what the AI was for this year's auto admit line, and they said something along the lines of "we don't use any kind of automatic admittance program, we give every applicant a comprehensive review" --- ok sure. -.-

:( As you all are getting your applications back, I can't help but feel a bit anxious about my own...

Well, I had a friend who applied around the same time around me..

he had a 4.0 with a 1180 SAT..not a strong SAT but a very strong GPA.

He got accepted around 2 weeks after he turned his turn which was right before the Jan. 15 dead line.

I just got accepted last week so meh.

Ya think they used the AI auto-admit?

One girl just got in instate with a 1260, 3.6gpa.

hmm...same SAT score, GPA .3 lower. I feel very very nervous about this all...:(
Still no preliminary review...*** is taking them so long?

I got reviewed yesterday...

But I don't see the link thing for the transcripts...

It is hard to explain. The link is not on the page where it says you got reviewed. Access myuw through your search engine. You should get the option to identify yourself as a student; then you scroll down to freshman app. infor and then on the side bar is a list which includes "unofficial transcript." Click on that. My bet is you are in. Let us know.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHOWING ME THAT. I was just looking at my application thing.

I have a question if I have the student number thing... does that mean I'm in...?

I see it now! I'm IN!!!!!

lols, congrats dreamkissed!

did you all apply for the Dec. 1st deadline, or the January one? Because I applied in January (with stats above) and still havent even received a prelim. review...is this normal? Or should I be (as I am right now) very very concerned??? :(
