I’ve applied (and been wait listed) to Brown’s RUE program. From what I understand, beyond freshman admissions, Brown University is need aware. I’m going to take a leap here and suggest that I may have been left in limbo due to:

I was not their first choice. But, I may have been on the list.

My EFC is close to 0.

I can’t remedy any of the above in the next few weeks. However, I do know that there are people out there who’ve come up with successful, personal strategies for getting off of the wait list.

My EFC is similar, and I have a feeling that may have hurt me as well.

I would imagine the only way to get off of it is if someone decides not to matriculate and the aid they were going to receive is enough to cover your need.

If they needed less, you may still be out of luck due to insufficient funds.

I guess my question is more about the etiquette of the process. I mean, is it rude to call to remind them that I’m still interested? Send them a letter with updates on activities that I think show more of who I am (and, subsequently, what I can offer as a member of the Brown community)?

There are a few high ranking administrators at my community college who have offered to write supplementary letters of recommendation. Is this appropriate?

Oh, as sort of a post-script, I have sent back the card saying that I am indeed interested in remaining on the wait list.

They actually forgot to put the card with my letter, lol

I will call tomorrow to find out how to get another one…

If I were you, I’d call and ask to speak with whoever interviewed you. They’ll know best what (if any) kind of supplemental materials are desired.

I know some schools specifically ask you not to send in more letters of recommendation or anything like that, because they already have enough paperwork… so I wouldn’t risk sending stuff in without hearing it from the horses mouth, no one here will be able to tell you since no one who’s been waitlisted to RUE has ever posted here before that I can find.
