Wait List etiquette

If someone's on the wait list for admissions and she wants to get in, is it appropriate or worthwhile to tell the school the names of the other schools that she's been admitted to?

dunno. Dartmouth's not going waitlist this year though, so this is probably the wrong forum to post in.

Just based on opinion, I don't think it will have any effect on them.

They have still put people on a wait list for transfers in the past 2 weeks, so perhaps for transfers there is a chance.

I doubt that they will be even using the waitlist for transfers since the freshman class is over enrolled (and they stated that they would not be going to the wait list) and there are currently 120 to 140 rising sophomores who are on the waitlist to get housing on campus next year (so it looks like the retention rate for the freshman class was pretty high)

So what happens if there is not enough housing? What will happen to those 120-140 rising sophomore? Where will they stay?

They will be assigned whereever there are openings.

for example: there are still approximately 20 upper class openings in EW, there are openings in the various affinity houses and some of the greek houses still have openings (for their members).

Some may decide to live off campus. there will be a little movement if people change their D plan, some students take leaves and may be called of waitlists for their study abroad programs, some get parked if they they did not meet the terms of their probation.
