Wait-list Notification

Anyone hear anything yet?

I was just about to ask the question. Hah I guess we will just have to wait and see

Still nothing?

I heard last Tuesday but I think it’s probably an ongoing process as people get off other wait lists and withdraw. I don’t think this happens too often but they can get back to you as late as July–I know some people who have put down deposits at American universities but have conditional offers from UK universities and won’t know where they’re going until they get their AP scores in July. There aren’t too many of those as far as I know, but something to keep in mind.

congratulations, bellem13! could you share your waitlist strategy? did you write/call, have your guidance counselor write/call, submit additional recs, etc.?

and how did the news come to you? a call from Admissions and/or an email?

@nyctogo thanks! I’m really excited to be going to Hopkins.

I wrote a letter of interest and emailed it to the admissions rep for my region. It was basically this: this is why I want to go to Hopkins, this is what I’ve been doing since I submitted my application, and then I stated at the end that if admitted I would attend. I had an internship in the spring with an engineering firm and I applied to the school of engineering, so I think that helped too.

Other than that, I had my counsellor submit my latest grade report and he wrote a little blurb about why he thought I would do so well there (I go to a pretty small school, so he knows me well). I also told them going to get a recommendation from the people I was working with at my internship (although they never sent it to me).

I heard via email–I’m not sure if that was just because I live outside the US and they didn’t want to make a long-distance call or if they just email everyone.

Also, another thing that I just remembered: in February I was in physics class and my physics teacher told me that she had written a supplemental recommendation for them because they wanted a math/science teacher recommendation in addition to those I provided. My counsellor never told me about that but it did happen.

Sorry that was so long but I hope it helped!
