Does anybody have a clue as to whether UChicago will take a relatively low or high percentage of students off the wait list this year?

Or...

When we wait listed applicants will be notified?

I called Lauren Droz Lieberman today and she said that they don't expect to take a lot of people from the waitlist this year, based "how things seems to be going." But she said that all of the info they have now is speculation and that they should know for sure in about a week or two.

If you didn't send all of your things yet you still have some time, just not a lot of it.

Well that's all I know as of now.

I was told by the office that they are expecting a very high yield this year...so don't get your hopes up. If they do opt to admit off the waitlist, I believe that they will start the notifications starting next week.

I just got the call! :) They said that they are only letting a handful of students in. I feel so happy that I am one of them!!!!!

Congrats!

I'm hoping to get in off the waitlist, but it probably won't happen. :(

congrats

well guess that means I'm not gonna get off th waitlist

Do you know the span of time over which they call students? Like were all the calls made today? Or will they still be calling over the next few days?

I'm not sure.. When I called Jerry Goyle told me to call back on Monday. (after saying encouraging stuff..) Then he called me back 5 minutes later offering me a spot. He said that I was one of the very first people admitted off of the waitlist, so I think that they will still be calling people within the next few weeks.

good luck everyone still waiting to hear!!

His name is Jerry Doyle, not Goyle. He's a decent chap, and the resident master of Broadmoor (one of the dorms), as well as a higher up in admissions.

astanley what did you do to get off the waitlist

did u write them a letter, send in more recs, etc?

sorry newmassdad. typo.. i do know his name.

yeah i wrote them a long letter expressing what i liked about the school, why it was a fit for me, and what i would offer it. also, there is a new teacher at my hs who went to chicago and he wrote a letter to the admissions office. i've been emailing with jerry doyle back and forth since i was waitlisted. my counselor called chicago for me and sent an email on my behalf. i think thats it..

I've been trying to perfect my letter alll week, guess I should've just sent it in. Ahhh I'm going to send it through priority mail tommorow. Then I gotta send them some more teacher recs and updatedd grades. I've been trying to talk to admissions counselor but she never seems to pick up her phone.

I just think all hope has dried up. Well guess it Carnegie Mellon for me : )

Newmassdad- its Broadview, not Broadmoor

Would it be beneficial to call my admissions counselor on Monday?
I've already send a letter and some postcards from France (I was doing a study abroad in France so I sent a couple postcards from places I stayed/visited) and then I sent an e-mail when I got home. Would calling be going overboard?

astanley, I'm from saint paul too! where do you go to school?

As far as getting off the waitlist is concerned, i don't think anything can be considered going overboard because anything extra you do just shows how much you really want to attend the school. So all the best to you all. I really hope all of you will be accepted. Keep believing.

i go harding high school. how about you brooke_u?

Congratulations for being taken off.

From my understanding, I will have to wait a long time to hear back from the admissions office..good or bad

I go to Central. Wow, you're pretty close to me!

blaze whos ur admissions counselor??
