wait list post May 1st

arrows to my heart

called the admissions office on Friday and they said...

"We haven't started admitting students from waitlist yet"

so... I am confused :(

Thanks for the info, merumerume.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with that. very strange

The reason is that they admitted enough students so that they wouldn't have to go to their waitlist at all this year. They'll only go to their waitlist if some of the students who enrolled at UChicago are waitlisted else where and get in. So right now Chicago's waitlist depends on other schools. It's not likely to get in off the waitlist this year at all...

Who'd you find that out from, ride?

I spoke with my admission counselor today and she told me exactly what someone told ridethecliche. There is an extremely low probability that uchicago will accept students from the waitlist this year, it all depends on how many students are accepted off of waitlists from other schools and what other school decide to do. But as of now these are the exact words from my counselor, "It really isn't looking good for waitlisted students, we received many more yes's than we expected."

I just called Ted O'Neill, said they have accepted a total of 7 off the wait list this year, and as other people have said, are not expecting to admit anymore. So, there doesn't seem to be any hope left. Congrats to all those that did get accepted though.

College admissions is truly a rite of passage, leaving both light and shadows in its wake. This is the hard part - the path you hoped to take is closed - time to move on.

I know that ridethecliche will be attending Wesleyan - a most excellent college. Where will the rest of you be going? You are without exception a fascinating group of young people - and I have enjoyed 'talking' with many of you. I - and I would guess many of the other parents on the board - would like to know that you are off to wonderful places.

I'm going to Emory afterall..
well, most certainly I am going to give the admissions office more work by submitting a transfer application next year..

Ohio_Mom -- Thanks for all the helpful advice and insight you have dispensed in various UChicago threads throughout the last year

I'm going to CMU, but I ma try to transfer to either MIT, Cornell, or UChicago next year. But I'm happy with CMU : )

well all I can say now is that I'm relieved that this whole process is finally coming to an end. Good luck in college guys

I concur whole heartedly with ohio_mom, this has been a delightful group of students on this thread. I'm impressed with each and every one; all will do brilliantly wherever they eventual attend.

I'll probably be doing finance/accounting major at nyu....

but I'll try to transfer after my first year..... (and second year if I fail..)

lol, what is the commone theme here?

University Athletic Association!!

So we have Wesleyan, CMU, Emory and NYU thus far - wonderful! And while transferring may be an option, don't even think about it now. Give it your all for your accepted schools - get to know your new classmates online - buy that t-shirt - and ace those pesky AP tests (so you can take harder and more interesting course in the fall!).

AP tests are over..hehe

I'll be attending DePaul, while it may not be prestigious, atleast I will be able to eat for the next four years

kimfuge -
I forgot - they are early in may and then the classes are pretty much pointless afterwards. Well, you can relax anyway.

Andy -
not only will you (and your parents) eat, but if you play your cards right you should be able to get the plum internships and grants. Congrats on DePaul and best wishes for the coming year!

Andy-

The best violinist at my music school will be attending DePaul next year. I know their music department is amazing, and you should try to take advantage of it if you can, as many of the music profs are musicians with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words, I plan to take full advantage of DePaul, but not their music department, other than seeing a concert or two. But only because I lack to a very large degree, musical talent.

So I guess this post just killed any hope I had that I would get in off the waiting list...oh well, I was sorta expecting this anyway. On a brighter note, I will be going to Rutgers' School of Pharmacy next year, so I'll save quite a bit of money (I'm an in-state student). If I like the program, I'll stick with it; if not, I can try transferring next year.
