I was wait listed at UChicago and was asked if I wanted to accept a spot on the wait list. Is the wait list binding at UChicago? If not why would anyone not accept a spot on the wait list if they can decline a later offer of admission?

bump. please help

Accepting an offer to be included on a waitlist is not binding towards admission nor is it a commitment to a positive response if offered admission.

People may already have gotten in to schools they prefer to UChicago, or can’t afford to waste deposit money on another school, or would rather not be anxiously waiting with a little sliver of hope all through June…

because some people aren’t a**holes who take up people who dream of going to Chicago

What is the number of people who have been waitlisted?

Is it a big deal to get waitlisted or even a Tom-Dick-Harry get waitlisted?

^ Please answer.

Also, I am an international who applied for full FA (i.e. EFC = 0)

after you’ve accepted a spot on the waitlist can you go back and change your response? i realized i really don’t want to go there unless they offer me financial aid, which is less than likely.

One can be asked to be removed from the waitlist.

You can email the admissions officer mentioned at the bottom of your waitlist notification and tell him/her that you changed your mind/clicked the wrong button.
