Wait list question.

There is a class I want to take, but I'm confused on the wait list situation. There are 400 seats available, 370 have been filled up, and it says that there are 30 spots open. Yet, it also says that there are 65 people on the wait list, so how is it possible for there to be open seats, yet have a wait list at the same time? Sorry if I sound like a noob, I'm a spring admit. Thanks.

If you click on “Click here for current enrollment information and course restrictions” it’ll tell you what the enrollment categories are. If one category is full and that’s what you fall in, then you get automatically waitlisted. If you are in any of the open categories, you are eligible to enroll.

Also, if you are waitlisted, you can only get in the class if someone in your category drops the course. So don’t be alarmed/annoyed/frustrated if you’re #1 on the waitlist but there’s people getting in ahead of you.

You can still be on the waitlist even though there are spots open in lecture because section can be full. They probably wanted a better time by waitlisting a full section.
