I was unfortunately put on the wait list for ucsc and ucr. I can use some tips on my appeal. Thanks
First accept the waitlist. Also because of application acceptance deadlines (typically end-April or early-May) you will most likely need to accept one of your acceptance offers before that deadline… That will mostly require that you send in a deposit and proceed with the housing process at the college whose offer you’ve accepted. Should you successfully get off the waitlist you will lose these deposits. However there is no real option so don’t skip this step. You may not get off the waitlist (most waitlisted students do not) and if you don’t proceed with the acceptance process at one of the colleges that has accepted you, you may not have a place for next year!
Second avoid end-of-year senioritis! Stellar last term grades and possible additional recommendations can be a big help to getting off the waitlist.
Third talk to college counselor. He may be able to help promote you to admissions.
Then provide updates to the college that has waitlisted you. The updates can include senior year grades, academic awards, possible additional recommendations, etc. Best is if these are substantial.
You can accept the waitlist at more than one college.
First, start thinking about that college where you put your deposit. You are probably going there.
Second, there is no appeal.
Third, think about what college you would want to go to from your waitlists. For ONE of them, tell them that if you were to be accepted you would DEFINITELY attend (if the finances are right). They are not going to want to accept anyone who will not for sure go to their school.
I am also waitlisted to UCR. Just wondering, what are you GPA and test scores? I have GPA of 3.2 W, 1490 SAT, and 22 ACT. I know my scores are terrible…
@bopper, what do you mean there is no appeal? And how do I tell them that I will definitely go there if I am accepted? Because if they do accept me, I will seriously attend.
A couple of my friends were waitlisted this morning. I’ve been using Admit See throughout the college process to help with things like this. Here’s a blog post from a girl who was waitlisted and then accepted to UCLA:
