Wait List Thread

Does anyone know anything about the wait list and how often people get in? I’m on the list for the Fu Foundation engineering school.

Same situation.
can’t find any information online.
Anyone know the numbers?

Waitlisted for the College and staying. Here are some helpful sources I found with a cursory search:

“Columbia admissions does not release statistics on waitlist admission because the numbers vary so widely from year to year” (so I’m not quite sure where the next source is getting its admissions numbers from).

https://colleges.niche.com/columbia-university/admissions/
“Applicants Placed: 2,017; Applicants Accepting: 1,504; Students Enrolled: 45.” I’ve also seen other numbers for other years scattered in random articles that I can’t find now.

I think the truth of it really is that the number of students accepted off the waitlist varies too greatly for any prediction more precise than “between 0-100.” We just have to hope for a low yield. There’s also an element of luck in it, as always, because many colleges pick students from the waitlist who could fill the rolls of other similar students who deferred acceptance. Good luck.

I was waitlisted for the College, and am staying on the list. I don’t have high hopes or anything, but I figured it was worth a shot. If I don’t get in, I’ll likely end up at Swarthmore or Johns Hopkins. Let’s hope for a really low yield haha!

@marshmallowpop‌ Same lol

Any idea what the supplementary letter is supposed to look like?

Also, I was accepted to Barnard (which is part of columbia university technically) and am considering going there. Can Columbia College see this information and will it hurt or help my chances if I address this in my letter?

waitlisted at 5 schools ROFL (columbia, swarth, amherst c, gtown, mit).
oH GOD I TRIED SO HARD AND GOT SO FAR BUT IN THE END IT DOESNT EVEN MATTER

haha jk, im actually not too depressed. Considering vassar, baruch honors, or stony honors. Hope fortune shines on me in a month and a halves(sp?) time

Do you guys think Columbia might at least release statistics (if we call) for how many students were WL’d this year?

@maddi12‌ I was wondering the same thing. Like could I submit another essay with it, or something?

Waitlisted here and Georgetown which were my top 2 choices… this sucks… will probably enroll at Stanford

My son is waitlisted and we have decided to stay on for the ride, hoping for a low yield.

For a little bit of a boost in confidence maybe, haha, Columbia got MORE applicants this year by a lot, but accepted less (IN NUMBER) than last year. I forget exact numbers, but they accepted like 60 less students this year, which may mean good news for us waitlistees.

Hey guys! I got waitlisted here. The thing is, I have Rathke’s pouch tumor but forget to mention it in my application. Is it a good idea to send them an essay about this and some aspects in which it shapes me as a person? Many thx~

@MawkishTREX‌ Very sorry to hear that. From what I have heard, sending in new essays is not particularly encouraged at most universities, but perhaps this could be an exception. If you want to stay on the safe side, you could always slip it in your supplemental letter. I don’t think it could hurt though.

Georgetown was your top choice over Standford? @Mssmithcollege? Are you closer in vicinity to Georgetown?

Hi guys I was also waitlisted at the College this year  just a quick question: who did you address your supplementary letter to?

Did you guys get confirmation after sending an update, automatic or otherwise?

No, Columbia has the name of the most unresponsive admissions office for a reason.

I’m surprised there is not much of an active waitlist thread going on. Well, today’s the day to get that letter in the email.
