Wait list tips

I found out this morning that I was waitlisted for Richmond. I am pretty sad because I really liked this school and it was a target for me. I know for a lot of schools, a wait list is basically a rejection. Are there ways to improve my chances of getting off the waitlist? I’m from NJ.

95.8 weighted GPA (top 10% of class of 300 kids), all honors/AP courses all four years (our school only allows 2 APs for every student Jr. and Sr, year, but I got special permission to take three each year)
1980 SAT (i just suck at standardized testing)
Great ECs, lots of leadership, all honor societies available at school except math, very involved in state science competitions (and have actually placed), tutor through honor societies A LOT
Hook: none unless you count upper middle class white girl from NJ as a hook for U Richmond
Recommendations: obviously didnt read them, but they should be really outstanding because of the teachers i asked

Just really concerned because I didn’t get accepted into any of my target/reach schools and i dont know why! My class was very competitive; basically everyone in the top 10-15% all applied to the same schools (because THAT was a smart idea)

I put my name on the active waitlist and wrote a letter of interest to my regional admissions counselor. Is there anything else I can do to help get my name off the list?

NJ is an over-represented state at UofR, so that is definitely not a hook. At least it seems that way being on campus (lots of people from Virginia and New Jersey).

Have you visited campus? Other than that, sending a letter of interest is the only thing I can think of.

Good luck!

I would recommend visiting UR gain to express your continued interest. Your stats are very impressive and I’m not sure why you were waitlisted. Nevertheless, you would fit in very well at the school and I’d like you to show them how much of a match you really are. Please remember that on any given day, those accepted could go on the waitlist and those on the waitlist could get admitted. When folks get tired, they sometimes make mistakes. Be persistent and good things will come. Best of luck. Go Spiders!

I have the same problem. I visited multiple times, have a rigorous courseload, straight A+s in my classes, 2000 on SATs, and am #3 in my class, yet I got waitlisted. I am probably going to emphasize to admissions that Richmond is my top choice and I am devastated that I will not have the opportunity to attend. I really wish I had done EDII right now.
