My stepdaughter applied to UNCW and has been waitlisted. This is her first choice school. Does anyone have any experience of what the chances of getting in from the waitlist? We are oos, she has visited a few times and met the admission person responsible for wait listed student on Monday. She is looking at 2 other schools this weekend but she has her heart set on UNC. Would it help if my son who was accepted but is not going wrote letter or called admissions? Thanks

I am going to guess the chances are not in her favor. UNC is limited to a 19% (I believe this is the correct percent) OOS rate. So being OOS works against her. In addition to the wait list, there is a group of 100 or so sitting on a Spring Admittance list. Those kids would most likely go before the wait list group. Course I don’t know how all this works but I would not hold out hope.

UNCW plans on looking at the wait listed students in mid May. Those students that have responded to UNCW to that they wish to remain on the wait list will receive a formal letter from our office in early June notifying them of a desicion. It is unclear at this time as to how UNCW will use the wait list and how many students will be removed. UNCW, like all North Carolina public universities, is restricted at bringing in no more than 18% of our first year class from out of the stat of North Carolina so this is also taken into consideration.

We take into consideration those students who we offer an admit to but that will not be attending. While your son or other students might have an offer of admission that is not something would change our admissiosn decision.
