Wait List

Jeff - Sending good vibes from CO.

Son decided he didn’t want to wait a year and committed to CMU Computer Science. Just wondering if anyone was actually taken off the wait list for Olin for this year yet?

heard a rumor that there are 0 spots, but that’s just a rumor

I’m guessing that with May 1 the official response date, they may wait a few days to see if anyone mailed a response by the due date. There are also the typical stories of kid changing their mind a few days after the response date. So, they may hold of selecting off the wait list for that too.

I don’t know about any other wait-listers, but my son is still on it. He would prefer to start in 2013, but Olin is his first choice, and he will wait until 2014 if necessary (looks like it is). It was a tough decision, but he declined Berkeley EECS and some other good options. What’s really tough is that with AP and IB he might have been able to do Cal in 3 years, so graduate in 2016. But I admire, approve, and applaud his decision. He will probably get a job and attend the local CC or CSU part time, at least in the fall. And, if all goes as expected, Olin, class of 2018.

Jeff, my son would have done the same. His good friend at Olin is a gappie. He worked for a start-up during his gap year which helped pay for Olin. It also gave him a way to work during xmas and after the first year. Your son may want to talk to other gappies to help him develop a plan. A lot can happen from now to August. Keep praying and let Admissions know your plans.

In the Olin 2017 facebook group, there’s a bunch of Olin 2018 gappies

Olin Parents received an e-mail from Admissions showing the stats for the class of 2017.

Currently they have 88 admitted & accepted students for the class of 2017. The goal was 84. So, I’d guess there wouldn’t be many come off the wait list this year.

I will say that the roommate my daughter was originally assigned last summer decided in early July to take a gap year. So, things do change over the summer. May 1 decisions aren’t irrevocable.
