How does Columbia use the wait list? Friends of mine are wondering because their daughter was wait listed. Some universities place thousands on the wait list and only accept a handful while others rely on it more substantially. Where does Columbia stand? And data you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Columbia doesn’t place “thousands” on the waitlist, just 200 or so. But they take very few from the waitlist.

Thanks pwoods. I appreciate your valuable insight.

@pwoods are there any stats available ? where did you find that information ?

From what I have heard from fellow Columbia applicants, it would seem as though Columbia wait-lists tons of people! I already know of like 10 wait-listed students and that is just in my area! But if they do really only waitlist a couple hundred or so, then great!!

Someone from our town had a daughter accepted from the wait list last year. But her sister also attends. Perhaps that worked in her favor? The family was in shock b/c we all know that that rarely happens.
