Sooo I got wait listed just wondering is it worth waiting? Also what are my chances of getting in after being placed on the wait list?
What major did you originally apply for?
Sadly, I was placed on the waitlist too.
My major is Accounting.
Gladly, I was accepted to Penn State, but I really do not wanna go there.
I applied to psychology @DNMDNC
And yeah wait list was a bunmer this was my top school I know some freinds who were rejected so il take it @AbdulM
I am placed on the Waitlist too, unfortunately. I applied for Computer Science in Engineering.
Well engineering is very competitive
What do u guys think are the chances? we won’t find out until late May at the earliest meaning we will have had to make another decision
If you really want to go, accept your offer on the waitlist ASAP. Could get you a higher spot on the list. Then enroll in your second choice school by May 1, and wait to hear from Illinois. Nothing else you can do but get on that waitlist if you truly wish to attend.
Okay thanks the wait continues
Read 59% of waitlisted in 2014 got in.
Does anyone know, if you were accepted to an alternate major, are you eligible for the waitlist for your first choice?
@UIUCDAD Don’t know where you read that because 0 out of around 1000+ got in off the waiitlist last year
That’s strange I know from my high school I can see stats of who got in vs who actually enrolled and the numbers were something like 145 accepted 43 accepted so I know there are some spaces available
@CSmajorQ I checked online in my Illini account and it said changing your major will not increase chances of admission
@Dhruv97 You’re right, sorry. I read it from another college. I get all these colleges mixed up
@KezM97 Thanks, but he is not considering changing his requested major. He applied for CS in engineering but was accepted to DGS instead. Apparently they want him at the university, but he didn’t make the cut for CS in engineering. I was wondering if students that were accepted to alternate majors could be placed on the waitlist for their first choice.
I actually called admissions today to ask. The admissions counselor said that students admitted to alternate majors will be considered for any spots that open up in their first choice major. They don’t need to be placed on the waitlist.
Schools generally know their yield, so if their yield is usually 33% and they have 1000 spots (say), they’ll probably admit 3000.
The waitlist is used if they underestimate yield.
It’s really hard at any school to get in off a waitlist. You have until May 1 to decide, so you can pick your backup and then if you get into UIUC just switch and go there, but based on past statistics, I wouldn’t bank on getting into your waitlisted choice. And if your’e already admitted into DGS, and only want to go to UIUC then it’s highly improbably you’ll get into the CS program as a waitlist for exactly the reason stated above. They know how many they have to accept to get the number of enrollees they want. More than a quarter of our high school gets in (about 150) but of the 150, only about 40 actually enroll typically (sometimes more sometimes less) so after all the years of doing this, they pretty much know where their numbers are.
I agree srparent15. We are not holding our breath for UIUC CS. It is an extreme long shot. I’m sure that especially for CS, their enrollment percentage is pretty high. I just wanted to let those who were admitted for alternate majors know that they are already considered to be on the “waitlist” for their first choice programs.
It will all work out O.K. My son is excited about one of the schools he has already been admitted to and to be honest, I think it may be a better fit. Sometimes you land where you belong.
