those of you who got accepted how many will accept the offer? this is just to give us, the wait listers, an idea of our chances.
thank you.

if I get a great finan aid package from Columbia, I might not :P. So i think you should start praying that that DOES happen...lol

I think they accepted over a thousand and expect around 400-450 to matriculate. So significantly more than half will have to turn down their place to give the waitlisters a shot. I'm definitely going to enroll, but that's partly because I was rejected at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Swarthmore, and waitlisted at U Chicago, Sarah Lawrence, and Carleton.

Anyways, stay on the waiting list and hope for the best!

I too am planning on accepting the waitlist (at both here and Swarthmore).
I have not visited yet, so after I visit I may or may not remain on the waitlist.

I don't think I'll remain on the waitlist since I've already been accepted by Dartmouth, Wellesley, and Bryn Mawr. I know one fewer person isn't a significant difference, but I hope it helps someone anyway. :)

So based on last 2 years of Data: We are doomed(:()

Join the Amherst's Waitlisted Class of 2011 Facebook group

I have a question. If I accept my place on the Amherst waitlist and somehow end up getting in, does that mean that I have to go to Amherst, or can I still decide, then, whether I want to go there or my other school at which I was accepted and to which I am now sending my deposit?

If you're on the waitlist and offered acceptance, it's not binding. You are perfectly free to turn it down and give another waitlisted student a chance! But if you wouldn't go there if you did get in, don't bother staying on the list.

orasool: already praying

Abhi08544: yea i was looking at the same stats and i agree: we are doomed. maybe i should transfer???

Yeah, I am also thinking of Transfer.

what college are all the waitlisters going to attend?

Waitlisted, and will take myself off the of it. Will be visitng Northwestern, Swarthmore, and Harvey Mudd. Have already visited Wash U in St. Louis, and will pick from among these.

I have zero acceptances, So I think i'll not take myself off the waitlist.

throughthewire -- I'm going to Dartmouth. :)

edited to add: good luck, Abhi!! I hope you get in.

Thanks cameliasinensis and best of luck at Dartmouth(:))

yea Abhi good luck!!!

Thanks throughthewire! I hope you get in too(:))

anyone else rejecting the offer of admission? or getting off the list? cuz from what i understand the only ppl rejecting the offer are those who got into the ivies.

I got into Columbia, but I'm staying on the waitlist. The two are like, polar opposites of eachother, but I think I might prefer Amherst. Oh, and I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but I read an article the other day which said that Amherst hopes, this year, to accept around 25 people from their waitlist. It's from the Washington Post, and there's a link to it on this page, though you have to have a subscription. It also mentions the number they hope to admit fact in the third paragraph on the following page:
http://www.amherst.edu/~pubaff/news/in_the_news/

Peugot, why would you turn down Columbia for Amherst...and people, it's useless trying to find out whose declining the offer...you know they ALWAYS overadmit...I think the yield is only 37% which is quite low, so you can expect to have more than two-third decline and still not get off the waitlist...
