Candidates were also inducted into the Navy after I-Day during World War II. With that said, the cited case for the Class of 2008 was not the norm and certainly shouldn't be counted on by anybody on the wait list. The Navy expects a certain attrition rate for all officer accession programs. That is part of the cost of doing business.

Hello! I am a waitlister too from Virginia. Has anyone heard anything yet on this thread? We have already been through the "third week in May." Uh-oh.

Have not heard anything yet. Busy week last week at the academy. Have you discussed with your BGO? What is your BGO saying?

Navy2010, you are correct (sorry this response has taken so long...busy week!). '08 was a special one time deal that the sup granted for that class. Please believe me, as a BGO we were told that their goal was to have most appointments out in early March (this was from a LT in Admissions), and most of what they were waiting on were med waivers and those who were late applicants.

Spent today at a Memorial Day parade, so good for the soul!

Best of Luck to the Class of 2011...now our work for 2012 begins :)

Yeah, I talked with my BGO and he said that he thinks that I will get in off the waitlist, but there are no promises. He also told me that he thought I would be accepted regularly but I can see that didn't happen. I am getting pretty used to waiting now. ;) I wonder what it will be like not having to worry about it ALL OF THE TIME. I still think chances are pretty slim, though.

He says that he doesn't know a number, candidates aren't ranked, and there is no real firm date for anything.

Uh-oh. I just talked with my BGO and he said the Naval Academy Class of 2011 is full. They will only be taking off the waitlist if people for one reason or another drop before I-Day. :(

Oh well, it was a good run...

We know of one who dropped on Friday. All things are possible.

Anyone else get the "thin letter" this past weekend? We did....

One page letter explaining that while son made the Wait List, the USNA did not have as many "declines" as usual and that the Class of 2011 is now full, etc etc.

Congrats to those that got in, and good luck to those with the fire inside enough to try again next year.

Yeah I got the same letter. Class of 2012 here I come.

2012 guys, 2012. Go for it!

I still haven't gotten a letter...

I also got a letter. Maybe you are on a short list? I understand the class is very full and not very many are turning down an appointment this year for other academies, ROTC, etc. Therefore, very few are coming from the wait list. Don't fret, there is beer and more fun to be had at civilian colleges.

Curious, any last minute appointments from the wait list this week?

One new appointment from our region notified last Thursday 14 June.

I got a voicemail last Friday (June 22nd) from the Head of Nominations and Appointments to give him a call back at his office. It is the weekend so I haven't been able to get in touch with him, so I figure Monday morning I will be able to speak with him. He never said in the message what it was about, but I hope that I am getting a very-much-last-minute appointment! Wow! Two days before! So much for preparation!

Do you all think it could be an appointment or do you think it is about something else?

Good Luck, Kriegs! Let us know what happens on Monday. I am keeping all fingers and toes crossed for you!

Wow, Kriegs! I'm also keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you. How will you ever be able to sleep tonight? If it's good news, sure won't take you long to get there. Good luck!

I don't know why else he would call ...maybe to check on the family, how your summer's going etc. It may be he wants you to report and be there on I Day just in case ... you'll already be there. Good luck and I hope it's the call you are looking for.

I would hate to get my hopes up "too high," but I would start packing up my bags if I were you! ;)

Kriegs,

Good luck tomorrow morning. Call him first thing and let us know what happens. Do some pushups today - just in case. ;)

Anyway, an awful lot of people are pulling for you...
