I did hear of someone getting off the G'burg waitlist this year. I know that last year no one got off the list so I am assuming that the school took less kids this year and perhaps went to the wait list. If so, has anyone heard about this?

hmmmm interesting. I was always under the impression (although I could be completely wrong) that the amount of students admitted is basically the same. I have no real proof of this however. There was an article in the wall street journal that addresses this exact issue. I can not take credit for finding the article however, it was listed on another thread. The link to the article can be found below.

Yes, I read the article - And I know that lots of kids were denied admission at G'burg this year - more than ever - but admissions has to predict a yield and since last year's yield was greater than expected, I was guessing - only guessing - that this year the number admitted might be adjusted to reflect that. In general, it's a tough year. But I did go to a dinner party and hear of a boy taken off the wait list (at both G'burg and Bates) so I was just wondering how many kids got lucky and were offered spots off the wait list. And frankly, I am glad that they went to the wait list since there are kids whose first choice was G'burg who were denied...but I only know of this one kid and it could be an unusual case - he goes to a private school and I always wonder if those counselors make calls and have relationships that help...I don't know. Probably only the admissions committee folks would know, and they are not going to be chiming in!
