Does anybody know if the UW has a waitlist, or anything about it?
I visited my friend at the UW yesterday, and we were talking about my chances of getting in, and she told me about how her good guy friend was initially rejected from the UW, then like two weeks later got a letter asking if he wanted to be on the waitlist, and then a month later, got in. he had a 3.1, 1280.
If I dont get in right away, hopefully this will happen to me.
what do you guys think?

there is one but chances of getting in from waitlist are pretty low. I'm kinda surprised that a 3.1 1280 got in only a month after waiting...must ve been over three years ago? Cuz pple on waitlist gtta hope for others who got in not to go to the uw thus opening up another spot...and a 3.1 1280 is probably not a good AI even on the waitlist this year but anything can happen

My information (school counselor responsible for senior college applicants) is the UW will not wait list this year. Do you have any more information about the "guy friend"? Seems curious since the local papers were filled with stories last year about people with 3.4s and similar SATs did not get in at all. Was he a URM? (under-represented minority).

well i checked with Melissa (my friend), and no, he was not an underrepresented minority. He was a white, middle-class male who ran track and cross country, took a couple AP's (similar to me)...and YES, he did have a 3.14 and a 1280 SAT.
That's so disappointing about the waitlist this year...if I didn't get in first, I was hoping I might have a similar chance on the waitlist. Do you know why they arent doing it?
By the way...what about all the people offered admission who turn it down (because it's their safety/not first choice)...do spots become available as they give them up, or what?

yes that's how pple on the wait list r generally let in...when did this happen? (ur friend being let in from waitn list).

So the guy got in to run track. A 3.1 and 1280 would be about a 47 AI.

Called up the UW admissions office, and spoke to Sherry Chavoya (head admissions counselor), AND Asefah Faraz (another admissions counselor), and found out that UW in addition to normal admissions, does both "Wait List" [self
explanatory] and "Deferral" [typically, an acceptance letter, but for a
later start date e.g. "Congratulations, you've been admitted to UW for
the Spring 05 term" or some such. I assume that can be accelerated, but
the point is it counts at the minimum as a DEFINITE acceptance".
So there is light at the end of the tunnel! I had a feeling they wouldn't suddenly discontinue it like that.

BTW mmboys, he wasn't necessarily a track star or anything, he didnt even get to state, just kingco. My point was that there may be hope for more average applicants such as myself. And I'm certain that your daughter will get in.

That is interesting. I will have something to say about this when this whole process is over and the dust has cleared.
