wait list?!?!

ok im kind of stunned. a little confused. but mostly stunned.

STATS:
1400 SAT(M and V), 2000 w/ writing
4.4 weighted GPA at my old school
95 UW GPA at my new school (out of a 100 scale/ does not weight scores)
National Honor Society
Varsity Letters
FBLA State Qualifier
Top 10 in class
and so on

and I'll admit I thought I would have no problem getting in...
NUMEROUS professors/ etc. have told me so...
so I get my Penn State Letter today...
"Finally", I thought...
and...
...
...
I've been waitlisted...

so my question is,
do I still have a DECENT chance of getting in, or is this the Kiss Of Death for my Penn State Freshman future?

when did you apply??

and did you mess up something on the application?

a week after the priority deadline at the latest
and no i really don't think i messed up the application

did you check you would consider summer?

sorry to hear that. I think you'll still get in. I would call and talk to an admission rep. With your numbers, I can't believe you're a waitlist. Maybe they got your application later than you thought? What major?
I guess they just ran out of spaces by the time they reviewed your application...

same here!!! this is sooo rediculous. thank god penn state was kind of my safety, so i'm not really upset, and i got into drexel honors so i have that, but still it feels awful

Well hate to bring you guys down, but my daughter, Gep, was accepted into Penn State UP regular admissions with only a 3.6W 3.4 UW and a 1280/1900 and decent EC's. Gep was so pleased with her acceptance, PSU-UP is her dream school.

i'm happy for your duaghter, and honestly not taht upset i mean it was kinda secound to last on my list, but i just don't understnad why i get wait listed, i mean.... it just doesn't make any sence. does penn state reject over qaulified couse they think it's your safety?

OMG alexsmol. EXACTLY SAME SITUATION HERE. I go to a prep school that people with 2.5's and 1600's get in Penn State and I have a 3.6 and 2110. In state too. good evertyhing, thought I was a ultra safety. I was in shock like the whole day. But it's ok...it was second to last on my list too(before Lehigh) lol. But I am kinda worried because I haven't gotten in any other schools...and I was definitely banking on Penn State to be my safety.

I am sorry that you got waitlisted, but Penn State UP is getting harder and harder to get into. Hell, I would not want to apply again. Unfortunately, I don't believe that in state carries any weight at Penn State UP. I was out of state, but it is only a semi-public land grant university and I don't think they have a quota that they have to meet for in state students. It really shouldn't be your safety, unless you are a lock at the top 15-20 schools. I am sure there will be people with lower scores (alumni connections, etc..) that get in, but that happens everywhere. Thewill, just be happy you got waitlisted. My friend's sister that came up to visit all the time and that was dying to go here, with stats almost identical to yours, just got flat out rejected. She is devastated, so be glad it was lower on your lists. I wish you all the best with getting off of the waitlist.

At our local high school, kids with 2.5s most certainly do NOT get into Penn State UP - they get deferred to another campus. 3.5 is more like it (GPA counts for 2/3).
That said, the folks who just got waitlisted probably would have been accepted into UP if they applied early, and it certainly WOULD be a safety for those with good GPA and SAT numbers who apply early.
Good news is that most of the waitlisted folks last year got in.

with your stats i am sure u will get in. don't sweat it.

AML27 said: did you check you would consider summer?

so my question is: is it bad if you didnt check that you would consider the summer?
and is it too late to ask to check it after youve been waitlisted?

Last years WL #'s: 1828 waitlisted; 1704 accepted place on waitlist; 1356 admitted from WL.

how do we "accept" our spot on the waitlist?

Kids in my HS with 3.5 gpa get rejected. Luckily I got in with a 4.0.

i got in with a 3.6
