This is very preliminary as I'm applying regular decision, but I'd like any information possible. I feel like I will be a candidate on the "bubble;" so if I do get put on the wait list, do my second semester grades and extra curricular activities count? I'm not planning on slacking off or anything, but I'm wondering if a February SAT and/or second semester grades will have an impact if I am put on the wait list.

Thanks in advance.

They should. Fordham requests mid-year grades from everyone I think, so that's kind of the same thing. If you do really well with grades/SAT then that should only help them make a decision; I'd think you should send in as much info as possible to make them convinced they want you.

But be optimistic! Hopefully you (and the rest of us CC'ers) will make it in without being deferred/waitlisted. You never know, maybe they'll see something in your app that pushes you out of the "bubble" and into the acceptance pile. :-)

If by second semester grades you mean Spring Semester of Senior year the answer is no. They will NOT count towards an admission policy for regular decision applicants. They wont arrive in time. If however you send them in immediately after graduation and you were waitlisted, they WILL review them and be part of the picture. You should know that Fordham has been oversubscribed the last few years and created housing havoc, thus very, very few kids made it in off of the waitlist and I heard anecdotally that they were commuter students and not resident students.

Your FIRST semester grades for Senior year however will definitely count at RD decision time and should be sent in as soon as they are received and your class rank is calculated by your school registrar.

IMHO the waitlist will be more relavant than ever this year as the new economic reality sets in. As more accepted students will not enroll due to financial concerns, more WL kids will get a shot.

Lower cost state schools will experience a similar anomaly as more accepted students will attempt to enroll for the lower cost alternative. Here in California, there is discussion of cutting the number of freshman spots due to the budget crisis. So what we thought would be a financial/acceptance safety for our D may now be the most difficult option.

These are strange times, all the rules are changing. Continue to study hard and do well if you are EA/RD or WL. And get busy on Fastweb looking for a scholarship. And be nice to your parents, they just lost half their wealth in the last year and feel badly that they may not be able to feed you, never mind send you to the school of your choice!

Indeed, and nobody really knows what will happen until next April or May. We dont even know if Fordham will break the record again on new applicants or will their record streak be broken? Then the endowment questions for every school loom large.

Then there are the people who made a ton of money this year shorting petroleum prices and other commodities and shorting financials in the stockmarket. (not me).

The market will likely rally in a steep bear market snapper into year's end and a lot of people will be fooled and get sucked in with the media saying stupid things like, "its all clear now! Okay to get into the market!" When in fact its just mutual funds and hedge funds being anxious about year end performance (how they get paid). I am no market wizard, but I do see the trends. How will that affect decisions? Depends on where the market is on April 1 2009.
