Wait List...

...Does anyone know stats on how Northeastern's waitlist usually works? Like what percentage of people are taken off the waitlist?? I'm so upset, it's my top choice and I THOUGHT it was my safety school but apparently not.

Anyone else in the same boat??

I was waitlisted with a 4.3 weighted GPA, 2010 on SATs, 31 on ACTs, and I have a lot of extracurriculars... soccer, track, NHS, Student Council, Art Club, etc.

I think it has to do with about 10 people getting in early action from my town. However I am friends with some of these people and it's very frustrating because I have much higher GPAs and SAT scores than them!!! (For example, one has like a 3.8 and her SAT scores were around 1800 and her ACT was 26 I think).

I know that at least 3-4 of them are DEFINITELY not going. Do you think them declining enrollment will help me get in off the wait list?

Also... is there anything I can do to help my cause? Like should I try to send them an updated transcript, call and ask questions, etc.??

I just want to go here so badly. It's one of the only schools with the Music Industry Major I want badly, even though I applied undecided. And I'm scared because as I said, I thought this was my safety! I'm worried I have no chance at a lot of the other schools I applied to now! Thankfully I am at least in at UMass Amherst, at the Commonwealth Honors College... I guess I could always transfer.

=\ Call the admissions office and tell them that you wanna switch your major into Music Industry. They only have ~200 Undecided spots (when you apply to NEU you should have chosen a major, this isn't the best school to apply undecided). You'll have a MUCH better chance of waitlist/accept if you change and choose a major. :)

GOOD LUCK!

Stat from two years ago was 1,326 on wait list, of which 19% (252) eventually enrolled.

just change your major and I guarantee you'll get in. I changed my major as well a couple months ago and all it took was a simple phone call. They will have to revisit your application so you won't find out right away.

I'm wait listed too
and I accepted their wait list offer
so could I call them and change my major?

Yeah my neighbor works at a nearby college and used to be a high school guidance counselor and she literally just told my mom the SAME thing about applying undecided to Northeastern... DON'T DO IT! You can always change your major. So I will call ASAP and ask to put that in as my major.

I just saw someone say that the Music Industry program had only an 8% acceptance rate this year... I'm thinking that's not the best major to declare!!! How do you find out stats like this? I kind of wanted to do a Media Studies/Music Industry double major so maybe I should just declare myself as Media Studies for now?

I got waitlisted with a 3.4 GPA (4.0 scale), 1990 SAT's high 600's/low 700's on my SAT II's. I am the VP of NHS, Student Council, and 2009. I have a **** load of awards for music/drama. Can anyone help me out as to how to get into NEU?

^ I think it is the GPA.

my son was waitlisted, too. He declared undecided. I think if he were to choose a major today, it would be engineering. Does anybody know what the acceptance rate for engineering is?
GPA 3.2 (5.0 in senior year);SAT: 1920 (680 math)
He was deferred from early to regular decision.

Declaring undecided is a quick way to end up waitlisted. There are only so many spots in each major, and undecided is, for practical purposes, a "major". Since so many people are undecided, there's way more competition. It's slightly easier to get in to one of the less popular majors within CAS than it is to get in undecided.

What are the unpopular majors?

probably english, history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy.

Basically anything that isn't business, undeclared, biology, health sciences, or engineering.

Thanks for the info! Do you think "Media Studies" would be a decent major to declare? I don't want to shoot myself in the foot all over again and not get in because I'm picking a really hard major to get into.

Goooooooooo figure. I just got into NYU. I would think that would be tougher to get into than Northeastern.

I'm calling NEU Monday to declare a major.
