My son had applied by Nov 30 for Engineering at Univ Park. However, he was considered for regular decision as his SAT scores cam in late.

Today he found out that he had been waitlisted at Univ Park.

His Stats are :

SAT (2190/2400) - 2150 -single date
GPA 4.00 +
Class rank 31/360

Has taken all the possible Honors/AP courses offered.

What's up with this? He thought that Penn State was his safety school.

We are from out of state.

Last year, Penn State had a waiting list of 1,456 applicants. 1,455 of those were admitted later.

But what perplexes me is that I find lot of other students with much lower stats have been accepted at Univ Park.

It would have been his safety if his application was complete by the priority deadline.

Definitely. People don’t understand how methodical State is. The number of applications they get is overwhelming, so they keep to a very strict deadline. Obviously people can get in past the priority deadline, but it becomes a hundred times more difficult.
