so how do you think the wait list is going to go? i know that deposits are due today, and i was wondering how many students are planning to decline their offer of admission. do you think many wait-listed kids will get in?

also, when do you think wait-listers will find out about this decision?

Idk but I'm hoping they accept me off the waitlist! I have my fingers crossed for you also. They say the middle of June.. But I'm gonna call tomorrow and see if they can give me a number atleast to go by.

I sent my deposit to UofM yesterday

thanks for your good wishes-- know that they are returned!!! will you post if you find out any information in your call? i would like to know what they say!

thank you! (and others--feel free to post your ideas and decisions on this; i, and others, would love to have a bit more info!)

Anyone reading this know of someone who was accepted off waitlist in the past couple of years? If so when were they notified?

Thanks

I'm not sure you can really compare from year to year because different things will affect this number. Last year, 1,689 students were placed on the waitlist and only 7 were admitted. But the basketball team having won the national championship supposedly influenced more accepted students to decide to go to UNC than originally expected. In 2004, 1,836 students were placed on the waitlist and 256 were admitted.

I don't know when people were notified, but the statistics also say that the waitlist is not ranked.

http://www.ais.unc.edu/ir/cds.html

If the list is not ranked how are the students chosen???? by lottery?

where did you learn the list was not ranked? Thanks

The part about the waitlist not being ranked is part of the statistics about the waitlist at C2 at the link I listed.

I think what they mean by not ranking their waitlist is that initially when they make the decisions to admit, waitlist, or reject people, at that time the waitlisted people are just a big group -- not ranked at that point. I think the process is that when the school hears back from those who are planning to attend and they know how many they can take off the waitlist, they evaluate those waitlisted people all over again with all the infomation at that time.

Has anyone heard anything? I was thinking about sending more information, but they recommend us not to. Any idea on when spots should start opening up?

Thanks

Edit: By the way I sent my deposit into VT, but I still have my figures crossed for UNC.

I've moved on from UNC, but I'm watching for waitlist decisions anyway. Checked in with my UNC homepage today--and my "wait list" info/letter was gone. Now all I have is the old "your application is complete" page. Wonder if they're getting ready to post waitlist decisions online?

I'm going to call admissions on monday morning. I was advised by a helpful person in the admissions office a main number to one of the heads in the office. So hopefully she will shed some light.. I'll post back afterwards.

just got in off the wait list!

muffin- how'd you find out?

^ I'd also like to know!!!

Muffin this is for UNC Chapel Hill. I haven't heard anything from anyone else. Has anyone had an opportunity to call the admissions office?

i know that, they notify you by phone or mail

How did you find out and where do you live?

phone, out of state

I spoke with some b$%^ in admissions since the number i was given went right to someones vmail. Newho, they said they just started reviewing apps. Then I said something like.. DUH. Then she said i'd know on or before June 30th, that she didn't know if they'd be admitting anyone off the list and so forth. I'm gonna call that vmail again!!

Typical admissions people. Let us know how the 2nd call goes.
