I have been watching a class for my S that my S was wait listed for. There are 30 seats in the class and for the longest time there were no available seats and 7 on the wait list. I checked through Gibson and saw where he was #2 on the wait list out of the seven total on the list. I now see where ONE seat is available in the class. apparently the course draws from the wait list in the order that people were placed on the wait list. Therefore, when he tried to register for the class he was told that the request was a duplicate and in error. Gibson now shows that he is #1 on the wait list and the ONE seat is still available. I am assuming that the student ahead in line now has a certain amount of time to add the class. When I go to Gibson - Register (Add or Drop Classes) and click on the drop down box in the Action category, the only choice available is "Dropped/Deleted". I am assuming that the person ahead on the wait list line has another option available right now where he/she can ADD the class. Is this the way it works and if so is there a time limit that the student has to take action to ADD the class. I would appreciate any light that can be shed on the process. Thanks

I believe when the person on the wait list becomes eligible, that they receive an e-mail and have 24 hours to register. After that, they go to the next person on the list.

I am correcting my prior post. It looks like they have 48 hours to register after being notified there is a wait list spot available:

Wait List

If you attempt to add a course that is full, you will receive an error message indicating that the course is closed, and how many students are already on the wait list, if any.
Below the error message, the course should appear with a drop-down menu. If you would like to add your name to the wait list, select Waitlisted from the menu.

Click the Submit Changes button.

If a seat becomes available in the course, and you are the next student on the waitlist, you will receive an automated e-mail inviting you to join the class. From the time of receipt of this e-mail, you have 48 hours to join the class. If you do not enroll by the end of this 48-hour period, you will be dropped from the wait list and the open seat will be offered to the next eligible student.

To enroll from the waitlist, select the Register Add/Drop menu option from the Student tab in Gibson.

You should see all of your courses, including those in which you are enrolled and those for which you have waitlisted. Under the Action heading, there is a drop-down menu for each course.

For the waitlisted course you are invited to join, select Web Registered from the appropriate drop-down menu.

Click the Submit Changes button.

thanks much
