My son was just wait-listed for arts and science( NB) and frankly I am surprised. he has a 3.74 GPA and 26 ACT, great leadership and great letters of rec. The only negative is a first quarter senior year D in Calculus Honors with the rest of his grades all A’s. When would he hear back on this?
After May 1st. They will re-review waitlisted applicants after everyone who wants to admit admits. It’s based on available space.
For example, one year everyone who was waitlisted for Rutgers Pharmacy was accepted because not as many people admitted as they expected.
Also, Rutgers doesn’t care about letters of recommendation, they won’t read/consider them.
I was also waitlisted, but my stats are not as high as your son’s. If they do have available space, he has a pretty good chance of getting in.
As it says on the Rutgers website, you should put a deposit into another school just in case he gets declined, just so he has somewhere to go next year. Even if you put a deposit in another school, he can still go to Rutgers if he is accepted, however, the money you deposited into the other school is lost. Most schools have a reply deadline by May 1st, so if that does happen, he won’t be the only one losing money. (I plan to deposit into another school just in case, but will accept admission at Rutgers if offered).
And make sure your son updates his SRAR with his first semester/midterm grades!

P.S. I really don’t understand how Rutgers makes decisions. I’m 17 and am practically fluent in 3 languages and I got waitlisted, while a girl at my school who really isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed got in. It’s such a twisted system.

@artspeak has he applied to TCNJ? His stats are high enough, it’s instate, and it’s about the same price of Rutgers.
The deadline for the application is tomorrow, and they only take common app. However, the other credentials such as the transcript are due by march 1.

@Njrutgershopeful 4.2 gpa weighted scale… in state…1680 sat … ec s are great if they look at them and pretty good essay … Did u apply to any other program besides sas that you heard from?
Does anyone know if once your denied or wait listed if it’s possible for my son to add or apply to another program he previously did not have as a choice. If he submits his mid term grades and shows a substantial progress he thinks he may have a chance at the business school. He is wait listed as of now for sebs. Not sure he can but being they are still taking applications is this possible to add or reapply?
I was rejected & will be sending in a letter & my mid-year transcripts Friday. If you want a new school, I guess you can write that in your letter.

My daughter had similar stats to artspeak last year and was wait listed for NB SAS. They told us to wait until May1, but she was accepted in the 3rd week of March (after I sent a deposit to another school). Be patient and hopefully you’ll hear before May 1. BTW, she loves Rutgers. Good Luck!
