Hey guys! I am an international student from India and an RD applicant to St. Olaf.
Just received a mail saying I have been wait-listed :(( I am pretty sure this is due to the large financial aid I have asked for. Do I have any realistic chance of getting in? How do I increase my chances at this point?

Hey, same situation here! International, a lot of aid, wait-listed… You can message me if you want to

Hey me too! International and a lot of aid, waitlisted
I am so confused about what to do!

Yeah me too! I’m intl with high need and got waitlisted, really depressed by now. Are you guys gonna stay on that waiting list? Have you been accepted to any other schools?

I think I am gonna stay as St Olaf is my top choice college. Still waiting on decisions though

Which countries are you from?

I’m from Vietnam, guess I will stay on waiting list anw cuz I have no other options. Just afraid that even if (somehow miraculously) accepted later they won’t give me enough fin aid to support my study there.

I’m frim Russia. I was accepted to Drexel, and they gave me 15k scholarship, but since there are about 15 more decisions to come, I guess I’ll accept the place on the waiting list and see what’s gonna happen!

I am from India. @KatherynP - Congratulations on the Drexel admittance. Would you mind letting us know where else you have applied?

US applicant - waitlisted today. Also high need. Anyone have info one acceptance off of the waitlist (historically)?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I always think it’s better to be informed.

Information like how many are put on the waitlist and taken off the waitlist is published data for every college in a document called the Common Data Set. If you look at the 2012-13 CDS for St. Olaf you’ll see that ONE person got off the WL. That’s not to say that more won’t get off this year, but it’s unlikely that many will because institutions track this stuff carefully and know how to build a class. Here is the part of the CDS that addresses the WL. See C2:

http://wp.stolaf.edu/ir-e/files/2013/07/12C.admission.pdf

I always tell kids to stay on the WL if they want, but that that shouldn’t be Plan A. Getting off a WL is a long-shot, and you can’t hope all summer long that it works out. Start embracing some of your other choices. :)

@Youdon’tsay - I really appreciate your honestly. I have good chances of admission at some good colleges back home, but a US education was the dream. Sigh!
In any case, thanks for informing. Hopefully others reading this thread will benefit from it as well.

Thanks, newdude. I don’t want to be a dream-crusher, but I want to make sure students understand their chances of being taken off the WL. Good luck with your other choices!

Hey guys @danbrownie, @KatherynP, @cougheedog, can you tell me how you receive the decision ?
Was it through a student portal? I now realized St.Olaf had never given me a student account to access the delivery of things whatsoever :< ?
Thanks for reading.

@thinktry the decision arrived in the US mail. The only online access was the application status portal which is still unchanged.

@thinktry I got an email with decision, the portal is still unchanged though

Thank you @coungheedog and @KatherynP ! Good luck to you both !

Hey guys! After two and a half month of patience…I got accepted from the waitlist. If you wish so hard, something happens! I wonder how many of you are with me. FYI I am an international student.

Visviva2018, congradulations! I’m still waiting…
May I ask you if you’ve applied for FA or not?

KatherynP : Thank you! I applied for FA but haven’t received the package. I told them I can pay 20K. I am sure that they will give me FA but not sure if the package will completely meet my need. I really hope I can afford and go Olaf ;
