Wait-listed

I received word on Monday that I was wait listed. What does this mean and how do I vie for an appointment? When will I find out a definite answer?

If you were waitlisted, you probably received instructions about what to do, i.e. sending in an email or snail-mail form indicating whether you want to be appointed. Just follow the instructions - if you got them - without delay if you still want to go to USNA.

My son was waitlisted last year, and within a week of sending in his intention of wanting to go to USNA, he received the "big yellow envelope". Everybody's case is different, but just don't waste any time on replying.

DO NOT DELAY was the best advice. This same thing happened to my pediatrician's son last year and he had a similar result - w/in 3 weeks of his reply, he got the appointment.

Congrats on getting waitlisted! That is better than a flat out denial!! The above posters have positive results with the waitlist, so it might look good for you too.

Thin letter just arrived. Son won't be home till 6. Held the envelope up to the sunlight and I think it says waitlisted! This is good news for my son I think, it is better than immediate denial. Since he is crushed about not getting the ROTC scholarship, this could be a real self esteem boost. I'll post what the letter says when he reads it. Fingers crossed.

^^^Fingers AND toes crossed for your son KM! I'm sorry to hear about the ROTC outcome. I wish him and your family all the best.

"Held the envelope up to the sunlight and I think it says waitlisted! "
Ok, I admit it, this made me lol. :D

We officially joined the waitlist party today. My D received the envelope this afternoon so we are waiting with you :)

Best suggestion is let the Academy know you definatley want this. Send in any updated information or updated resumes that may make them even more aware of how determined you are to earn a spot with the class of 2012. Congrats on being wait listed, its a step in the right direction!!

Son came home and opened the letter...It was a letter explaining waitlist. That is great! He is going to send the information they asked for ASAP. They want a current transcript and updated information.
Yea! Good luck to all who made the waitlist!

i have a question, i have an appointment to USMA, an NROTC scholarship (which i am going to decline soon so it may be given to someone else) and i applied to USNA (my top choice)...I have not recieved a rejection letter nor have i been wait listed...I have a congress. nom and a sen. nom, along with the pres. nom. if you have not been wait listed nor rejected, but not yet accepted, what are they doing with your file? I ask because i read that by April 15 a candidate is supposed to know wether or not he has been appointed. I just want to know what is going on because i have to accept USMA by May 1...thanks all

also, i just read on USNA admissions site that "most candidates will be notified of their final status by April 15"....most? who are the others whom are not notified? i am (guessing) this refers to those whom are waitlisted...but i am not positive...like i said, i plan on sending in the yellow acceptance card to USMA around April 22, no later than April 25, thanks all

vitamin - Congrats to you on being waitlisted! S received his rejection letter yesterday, and there was no mention of a waitlist. He contacted Admissions and was told that he was "not selected" for the waitlist. The fact that you have that in hand is very promising! Best wishes to you.

Waitlisted is so much better than rejection. S has had a few tough days on the heels of his rejection. Appointed to USMA and USAFA, and 4yr. NROTC to Embry-Riddle's flight program. Sadly, his heart still says USNA...

My D is declining her appt to USNA and NROTC to UNC - so there's one more 'waitlisted' applicant who may hear good news soon! My D is accepting appt to USCGA. Best wishes to all waitlisted!

i'm sorry to hear that mom2102.

as for champs...according to my waitlist letter, it says that all waitlisters will hear at EARLIEST: mid May and at LATEST: late June. so the "know by april 15th thing" applies to appointments and rejections, not waitlist

Your daughter has made an excellent choice, congratulations to her.

Can he accept the NROTC to Embry-Riddle and apply to USNA again next year?

just got my rejection letter, lol, i feel kinda down but i find it ironic the day i decide to come out and ask what is going on if you have not been rejected, accepted, or waitlisted, anyway, off to west point i go, best luck to all pursuing or appointed to USNA :)

^^^^^
Good luck at West Point.

Champs don't feel down - West Point is a great place too! (Iwouldn't admit that on the day of Army - Navy game LOL :) ! Best wishes as you pursue your goal of being a military officer. At West Point you'll be provided challenges and opportunities that many only dream of.

"also, i just read on USNA admissions site that "most candidates will be notified of their final status by April 15"....most? who are the others whom are not notified? i am (guessing) this refers to those whom are waitlisted...but i am not positive...like i said, i plan on sending in the yellow acceptance card to USMA around April 22, no later than April 25, thanks all"

Most would include people like me, who are having medical waiver issues with dodmerb. I have an orthopedic appointment on monday to get a full evaluation of my knees done (thanks to strings pulled by my mother, who thankfully works in a hospital!) and USNA told me to call in a few weeks because it's going to take that long to process my waiver. They even said that I might have to get an evalution done with THEIR doctors if they choose to give me my waiver (which I will gladly do, even though it's ridiculous that my DQed condition doesn't exist)

So yes, "most" find out before April 15. Unfortuantely, some of us do not. The lady I spoke to on the phone, who was very helpful, told me that I should accept another college offer if I don't find out before the last week in April and then end up losing my deposit if USNA gives me my appointment in order to have a backup other than a community college.
