My S found out today that he was waitlisted. Historically, does NYU go to it's waitlist?

For 2008, this wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Supposedly this year, generally more students will be coming off of waitlists.

From NYU’s Common Data Set:
Freshman wait-listed students (students who met admission requirements but whose final admission was contingent on space availability)

If yes, please answer the questions below for fall 2008 admissions:
Number of qualified applicants placed on waiting list 1864
Number accepting a place on the waiting list 1037
Number of wait-listed students admitted 543

That made me feel so much better, londonb. Especially if they plan to accept more students off of the waitlist. I can only hope from this point on…

Oh man thanks so much londonb! I got waitlisted from Stern and while I’ve HEARD they’ll be accepting quite a few people from the wait list, I wanted to see some actual numbers. I was wondering however if you’d happen to know where I could find data pertaining just to Stern? Again, thanks!

^I couldn’t find anything pertaining just to Stern about the waitlist…but I’m going to guess the acceptance rate from the Stern waitlist is low…Most of the “Number accepting a place on the waiting list” is probably CAS.

I’M SO SAD. =(
I’m not sure if I should stay on the waitlist or not… because of money, I’ve already decided i’m not going to NYU, but an acceptance letter would still mean soooo much to me because it’s been my dream school for 3 years. But I don’t want to just prolong the rejection and get all depressed again in May, or take someone else’s spot who may actually be going.
tears

@nothing

if you know you’re not going to NYU, do not stay on the waitlist. that’s just wrong. there ARE people waiting who can and will go to NYU if accepted, and to stay on the waitlist would be wrong. i’m sorry, i know that it’s really disappointing, but it’s not fair to the other people on the waitlist.

i know, i don’t want to hurt anyone else’s chance of going… so i guess i can kiss New York goodbye… for at least another 4 years. :(

nothingatall, I feel the same. I’ve been wanting to go to NYU Stern for about 2 years, but I’m unfortunately waitlisted. I’m heading off to Michigan Ross(hopefully). I can’t afford NYU anyway, but I want to get accepted!!! Who knows I’ll end up going Stern. LOL, so where are you going?

My S was waitlisted today. It’s high on his list so he’s decided to wait and we’re visiting next week, along with 5 other schools he’s been accepted to.

You are automatically off the waiting list if you don’t reply by May 1st.

KarenLee: UCLA for me! my parents wanted me to stay in state anyways. I’m kind of excited because it’s a good school too, but… I’d chose New York City over Los Angeles any day.

If we were to write them a letteer affirming NYU as a first choice school, where do we send it to, I cant find anyone on the NYU website to mail or email it too

You would send it to the admissions office.

most schools are expanding thier waitlists this year and accepting more students because of the economy, so if you want to go to NYU I recommend you respond asap.

Good luck to all of you! Karen and nothing - wish the best for you - UCLA and Michigan are terrific schools too!

way2much : miss american pie posted a great thread on waitlists. There are also some in the Parents forum.
