My D received a priority app from one of her top schools. She is retaking the ACT in Oct and has two sets of SAT scores. The school in question has rolling admissions and though her CR scores put her close to top range, her math SAT is just below range. So the question is: Should she submit now using her existing scores or submit in Nov when she will have her new and hopefully improved ACT?

Do it now. IF she got a priority app, presumably she's already similar to students they'd like to recruit. With rolling admissions schools, the later you submit your application, the more competitive it is to get in because space becomes more limited and adcoms become more selective.

She also doesn't know if her ACT will go up. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Thanks NSM!

You should wait until she takes her act. oct 25 is about one month from now, and whether you apply now or in one month will make no difference on whether or not she is accepted.

If you wait till December, yeah it might make a difference depending on the school, but seriously waiting one month will not affect whether or not you get admitted.

It would concern me if one of the scores is not in range at all. I would take a hard look at whether this school's general practice is to defer or reject. If it's the latter, I would wait.

We faced this with my middle child who loved a school that was a major reach as one score was at the low end of range. When we really looked at the stats of accepted students we saw that his chances would go up substantially with a 30 point SAT increase, something we all thought he could achieve. He did 40 points higher and got in.

Things are so crazy out there now I fear that at any competitive school having a score not in range may make it impossible and while waiting is a risk, it's a wisely calculated one if you think she can improve the score.

Its actually a month to the test and another month B4 scores come out so we would be looking at late Nov. Dec 1 is the end of the priority app period

you can rush scores to colleges and they get them a lot faster, you know that?

you really should as ka college counseler for advice.

how much sooner do you get them w/ the rush??

I would do it now and if she gets deferred, send in the newer scores later. You must also consider the small chance of her doing worse. Think about it.
