Wait to Transfer?

I just finished my first semester at SUNY Stony Brook. I really messed up and ended up with a 3.55 GPA. Intro. Chem murdered me. I am looking to transfer to some of the Ivies, but with a suckish GPA like that, I have little to no chance. My question is, should I wait and transfer as a junior?
I don't want my high school accomplishments to diminish. How badly will they diminish/be disregarded if I transfer as a junior?
H.S. Stats:
GPA: 98% U.W.
Valedictorian: 1/400
33 on ACT
790 and 740 on SAT 2
Lots of state and regional awards with a couple of national.
Great E.C. with almost all leadership positions
Research( currently continuing)
Started my own music program and reading workshop for disabled children.

Should I wait until my GPA is 3.8+ or just go for it with a 3.55?
I think I have a pretty good reason to transfer?

Thanks!

There is nothing wrong with a 3.55 GPA. It will depend on the sum total of your application. Yes, your hs record diminishes in importance the longer you have been in college, although I doubt they will overlook that you were 1/400.

Wait! I thought colleges don’t see 2nd sem. grades if you apply for sophormore transfer?
They will see the crap G.P.A. as it is.
@ntrading: You’re soo right about the class difficulty. I was stupid to take classes with hard prof. Honors chem raped me!!!
I’m taking 17 credits next semester but I looked up all the profs. on ratemyprof.com. There’s no way in hell I’m taking hard classes ever.
